Newbie - Day 1
Newbie - Day 1
Words cannot express my relief. I’ve just successfully completed my first night with a CPAP machine.
My wife has been telling me for years about my snoring. And for years I dismissed it. I didn’t know there was anything that could be done about it and I didn’t realize the severity of the problem.
Recently, I became aware of the world of CPAP. Thanks to the internet, it was easy to learn a great deal in a short period.
Being averse to doctors, I chose to do an in home sleep study through an internet doctor site. This test showed that I have severe OSA with an AHI of 71. This explained a lot; the snoring, the gasping for breath, the fatigue, and the bags under my eyes. This was a serious problem.
With a prescription for an auto CPAP machine, I purchased a DeVilbiss IntelliPAP and a ComfortFull 2 mask. I love them both! What a difference! I slept wonderfully. And my wife got a good night’s sleep as well.
I feel like a kid at Christmas. I’m looking forward to a restful night’s sleep in just a few hours. Just for fun, I ordered a new mask today, just to try a different type.
Thank you cpap.com and thank you CPAPprescription.com!

Good for you having a positive attitude on the first day... That is awesome... and it only gets better and better from here on out... In June I will have been on CPAP for a year, and the changes have been amazing... My blood pressure is back to normal, I have lost 36lbs, I never feel the need to nap... and most of all, for almost a full year I have not felt like I was going to dose off at work, it's amazing!
Good job, and keep us updated on your progress

Re: Newbie - Day 1
I'm not too far from you in terms of the therapy and the reason for start. My wife also complained bitterly about my snoring, and while I'm ashamed to admit that her complaints weren't enough for me to take immediate action, I did eventually go in for the study and confirm my need for the gear. I'm only about 2 days ahead of you - still feeling a little tired during the day, but it also doesn't seem quite as severe as before. I can tell that I'm sleeping better based on how I feel right when I get up, but falling asleep is still a little more difficult. I expect that challenge to go away as I get more used to having straps on my head, a mask on my nose, a hose hanging from my head, and air being pumped into me...
I can't even yet say my wife is sleeping better - the first night, I had to battle leaks that woke her up, too, and the last two nights, she was working (nights as a nurse). If tonight is reasonably leak free, she'll be able to sleep better... (She has to 'turn around' after working two nights, so leaking will not be welcomed... )

Re: Newbie - Day 1
Please give us a report on how you were able to get your prescription thru the California outfit. I have a friend who probably needs CPAP therapy....but hates the thought of going thru a sleep study performed at a site other than his home.
Re: Newbie - Day 1
Like your friend, I hated the thought of doing a sleep study in a hospital or sleep center. The process at cpapprescription.com was as close to painless as possible. I paid their reasonable fees and received an in home testing device. After carefully following the instructions, I completed a night long study with the recording device. The device was on a belt, monitored my heart rate and breathing. The next day, I repacked in the unit in the small box that it came in and mailed it back for evaluation. It took a couple weeks, but they responded with a detailed report based on the recorded data. I was very impressed with the process. The test clearly showed that I have OSA and I was given a prescription for an APAP unit. I had the prescription faxed to cpap.com and placed my order. I would recommend the process to anyone.

Thanks! I'll relay your information to my friend.
