Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
Hi all,
I am looking to get a new full face mask. I am currently leaning toward the Resmed Liberty model as I have been using the Resmed Swift LT with good results.
Any feedback on your experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
Hello,
I currently use the ResMed Mirage Liberty full face mask. I also use a ResMed S8 Autoset II machine with a pressure range of 12-16cmH2o with EPR @ 1. I mostly have a 0.00l/s leak rate with my Mirage Liberty mask. If I get some leakage, its always under the 0.4l/s which my machines allows to compinsate for the leak. My AHI has been around 4.0 to 4.3 with a very low AI index. I believe this mask is a good one and should give it a try. Most important is to get the straps just right. I hope this helps you in going with the Mirage Liberty.
Sincerely,
Chad

Hi Tiberious,
I just picked up the Liberty the other week and it has been great. I have tried the full comfort lite FF mask and swift nasal pillows prior, and this one has been the most comfortable and least leaky so far. Unlike the full face mask, it doesn't leave any marks or sores on my face which was a big plus for me. Good luck!

Re: Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
I just tried the liberty and the respcare hybrid..
I MUCH prefer the f and p nose pillows, and wish I could have stuck THEM on the respcare hybrid.
The liberty had the nicer pillows of the two, but the mask totally did not fit my face, so thats a very individual thing..
the mask on the respcare fit me great, but the nose pillows dont stick in my nose.. tried medium size, went to small,
still too big or design is weird, or Im weird!
Im calling dme tomorrow to try smaller pillows on the respcare hybrid.. sure is nicer than the FULL masks though..

You're not trying to fit them inside your nostril are you? They sit at the end of your nose with bulge on the outside and just the opening & a little more inside your nose. Watch the fitting videos to see how to fit the mask. Many of us have to create some form of extra strp to keep our pillows in place; try some of these ideas viewtopic.php?t=14422&highlight=elena88 wrote:...the mask on the respcare fit me great, but the nose pillows dont stick in my nose.. tried medium size, went to small, still too big...

hi!
no, not trying to fit them inside, the design is rather odd, and the part that rests against your nose is way too short, they just
sit outside and leak like crazy.. the dme said these were running large I guess, and he switched the medium to small, but didnt have anything
smaller at the time.

Re: Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
I've only been using mine for a week, and I love it. My RT initially said he didn't like them, thought they were kinda gimicky, which I can understand... But, after we couldn't get a FF to seal properly he happily sent me home with it.
I was attempting to solve several problems. First of all, I'm a mouth breather, and I don't think anything is going to change that. I've tried it all, and nothing worked. Secondly, I couldn't get a FF to seal properly without leaking around my eyes. I tried one a couple of months ago and I had to keep it tight to the point that my nose abcessed as a result.
That left me needing a mask that didn't come over the bridge of my nose and also worked for mouth breathing... this was the answer.
After a week I've had much better numbers, virtually no leaks, and better days as a result. I can't imagine going back to the FullLife or ComfortGel I had tried before...

Re: Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
I purchased the Liberty last Thursday and have been using it for 5 days now. The fit is good and I am getting leaks rates of less than 0.4l/s which seems high to me because I do not detect any leaks before sleeping.
This is the best fit I have found on a full face mask.
I am getting AHI's in the 15-18 range with AI 's in the 5's with this mask. With my Swift LT nasal mask I was getting AHI's in the 5-8 range with AI's 1-2. The results with the Swift LT seem pretty good considering I started the a AHI of 55 during my sleep study which means the actual number is probably higher at home.
I guess its possible that I am mouth breathing more with the Liberty FF mask, causing more events.
I find it uncomfortable to sleep on my sides since I fractured my clavicle in March and I still have joint pain from the trauma.
I will switch back to the Swift LT to determine how much of an effect the mask type contributes. Once I get my Card reader in approx a week I will be able to get a better picture of what is actually happening.

Re: Resmed Liberty Mask - Experiences
Hi Tiberious, I use the Mirage Liberty and reckon that the mask should be shipped with a chin strap that stops your jaw from being pulled back by the lower mask straps and from moving around. The lower jaw is, after all, a moving target during the night. I sometimes get sore jaw joints as a result of using the Liberty. I am looking forward to my chin strap arriving in the mail! Cheers,Tiberious wrote:Any feedback on your experiences would be appreciated.

I also use the Liberty. It's OK to mouth breathe with it. So I don't think that's your problem. To help control leaks, I tie a shoelace around my head with it pressing up to hold the nose pillows in place better. I've been bothered by leaks lately and think it's because my shoelace is stretching and getting too lose in the night.
Your AHI is still pretty high. I'd suggest you investigate whether your pressure is too low. My guess is it is.
