Welcome back - this seems to have been a bad winter for many of us - I went through the flu/bronchitis/pneumonia thing too in February.

Welcome back John.

The latest supplement theory around my neighborhood is that most of us are short on vitamin D and get colds and flu because the shortage results in a suppressed immune system. Supposedly "they" tested a group of professional surfers in Hawaii and found, despite heavy daily sun exposure, more than half were D deficient.

My 20-year old daughter was tested and found deficient and prescribed 2,000 IU (OTC) per day.

I had a bad cold in December and then some kind of strange virus in February. So I bought a bottle of 350 x 5,000 IU of D3 at Sam's. I will take that for 350 days and see if I catch any colds or viruses.

Why 5000 IU? Because that was the best deal at Sam's!

I've heard that quite a bit these days, mostly from Dr Mercola ... I would be very interested if someone had any "scientific" evidence supporting this. It's very intriguing. If anyone has more info on this & posts it I'd be grateful!

Right now I'm in the middle of fighting the cold. I really want to find that truck that ran me over. I've got a bone to pick with that driver. He should have just finished the job! But that's tough with lots of coughing and sneezng and sniffiling

Hi John

Good to have you back And I hope you manage to "rest easy", and recover quickly.
First, I was just preparing a presentation (I provide training to folks around the world).

One of my test systems died and had to be rebuilt. Then I had a Windows Mobile phone die. You need to understand I *highly* customize my phone. I've been known (in an emergency situation) to find a quiet corner at a state fair and conduct a conference call. I can do most everything with my phone. But when a phone dies it takes me a week or two to set up the new phone.

My years of untreated OSA have definitely affected my ability to absorb new technical data. So my new "do everything" mobile is still waiting to be programmed. So if your round the world training brings you to Australia....................

Regardless, I hope you quickly get over the cold, coughing, sneezing and sniffling, and it does not deteriorate into anything worse.

cheers

When Murphy joins your team you're in real trouble. Hope you can fire him, your cold, and the truck driver for a long long time!

Doggone that Murphy!!!!! When I finally managed to convince him to get lost and get the h*ll outta my life I sure didn't intend for him to go pick on you!!!

I recognize "that" feeling, you think you're gonna die and are afraid you won't. And I recognized the driver of that truck - it was that dang Murphy getting in his parting shot!!!

I'm glad you finally managed to get Murphy gone, JohnB. Welcome back!

John,

Glad you are back!

Always remember, just because you're parnoid doesn't mean the universe isn't out to get you. (I am trying to reprogram a new phone, also! AND fight a respiratory infection. So you have my sympathy.)

Hope you are feeling better soon, and I look forward to your posts.

Rooster, do you think 5,000 IU would be too much since your daughter's Dr only prescribed 2,000/day for a diagnosed deficiency? We take 1,000/day but that's probably not enough. Thanks.
