Atlanta Area Meetup 5/22 Summary

Same place, Einstein Brother's bagel corner of Hammond Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody just outside I-285. Whoever gets there first snags the big table.

I'm bringing my emWave trainer for show and tell and ResScan & SpO2 graphs for discussion...have sleep doc appt 5/14 so should be interesting to see what he has to share on my multiple nightly wakeups.

Hey, for this meeting, bring your SpO2 printouts and let's have a round table discussion. Bring your xPAP charts too and let's see if we can see patterns that might help each other get the restful sleep we're missing.

Less than 48 hrs to go!

Almost time! I am busy printing and packing stuff. See everyone tomorrow!

Great meeting! We talked about:

• Melatonin & experiences with it and sleep drugs
• Shared current xPAP/oximeter graphs & charts & talked about what they mean & possible improvements -- 1 of us loaned a CMS 50D last month so that 2 of us could see if our wakeups might be due to desats at noght...nope but that was reassuring
• Talked about dopamine and its effect on sleep...will do some reading on this and discuss next month
• Continued last month's talk about hypothyroidism & its effect on sleep
• Demo-ed the emWave biofeedback trainer and everyone got to try it out
• Spare mask was was retuned to owner as the trial wasn't successful (ruled out ordering that mask)
• Discussed some books notably "Sound Mind Sound Sleep" and "Mindful Meditation" & Thich Nhat Tanh's exercise of mindful eating
• Discussed the wakeups most of us still have every night & other health issues that disrupt restful sleep
• Discussed the Zeo
• Demo-ed a soft eye mask
• Skimmed some articles on sleep and associated health issues
• Decided that Velcro-ing yourself to a vertical surface conceivably might eliminate apena, "Nite hon, going to sleep" then jumping up against a wall...we all laughed so hard at this one the other bagel shop patrons started staring at us (maybe ya hadda be there)
• Told the one gal who came to see if we were competition "Leggo" assembers (lots of Leggos on the table) that we were a monthly support group who all had sleep apnea and did she know that that was? Bingo, she did.
• Discussed lithium & our local suburban city of Lithia Springs which is famous for its lithium-containing water and MelloYellow and whether we might investigate lithium...no decision one way or t'other

All in all great meeting...a chance to vent to other hoseheads giving our loved ones a break from hearing CPAP therapy...at least for a little while
