The leg edema and sob doesn't sound like cpap problems at all, no matter how you adjust the pressure etc. It's good that you have a heart workup that is clear.........but I would look to a pulmonologist or other practitioner for these answers

I had all those problems still have asthma but not nearly as bad and the edema my feet swell a tad now and then but not much. The problems didnt improve til I lost substantial weight. Now wether its connected with sleep apnea I dont know.

So and what does your data say?

What exactly did your "work-up" consist of? Were your kidneys checked at the same time?

I have issues with idiopathic edema for many years. Went thru a spell a year or so ago of it being miserably out of control. Doc increased my Furosemide 4x and kept worsening. Finally decided to add Metolazone 1/2hr before the Furosemide, and it worked so well I was able to drop the Furosemide back down to my original low dose, and many days don't even have to take it. Just wondering if you are on a med that is now working against you instead of for you, and if you need a change rather than an increase. And some meds are known to cause edema. Has your doc assessed your meds for this?

I'm with the others wondering the specifics of what you have been tested for. Besides heart and kidneys, I've heard that hypothyroid can cause edema. And I too wonder about your data. I have found that the more effective my treatment and the better my sleep, the more efficiently my body functions. I think that should be your first plan of attack, as having your therapy optimized is good in every way. Don't understand why the doc questioned your settings but took that no further.

Best wishes as you seek answers.
Kathy

I don't think anyone here can diagnose you--the best we can do is look at your numbers and see how your CPAP is working for you, but that doesn't mean it's related to your symptoms at all.

I, too, have these symptoms, but my major problem (causing the fatigue and shortness of breath) is deconditioning. I have congenital heart issues and asthma which are well-treated, but with the apnea fatigue I was getting NO exercise. Now I'm starting to move again, and these will get better.

As for the leg edema, it has a wholly different cause for me (primary lymphedema is part of the genetic disorder I have), but it can also be caused by inactivity and dependent positioning (in other words, if you are always sitting around with your legs hanging down, you're overweight, and deconditioned, the legs will swell).

I suggest getting a good, comprehensive physical to make sure there is no underlying illness, and if not, the answer is clear--get moving! Make sure the doctor approves the amount and type of exercise you try, but if there are no medical contraindications, the solution is in your own hands.

CPAP wmay make you feel well enough to get moving again, but it isn't going to cure those problems alone. If only it was that easy
