Re: ResMed Swift FX
I agree, you'll notice a huge difference. I couldn't wear the Swift II for more than 3 hours a night, I'd wake up having to pull it off and change mask due to the pressure making my nose sore. The Swift FX I can tolerate most nights and don't have a problem with it unless I'm heavily congested.
I think you'll enjoy the Swift FX

Re: ResMed Swift FX
LOL I've had the Swift Fx for over a week - there's no doubt, it's super comfortable. But I am still getting some leaks, even with the lanolin.
The Swift II that I just got from a fellow cpapper just arrived. It's got a 'snugger' fit, I like the ability to tilt the nasal flares - I'm curious how it will perform in the next few nights
(So far the only downside is the cpapper was a female and I can still smell the perfume )

I have been using the FX for a few weeks now. It's the best mask I've ever used. I too had leak problems with the FX. What worked for me was to loosen both the top and the back straps to what would seem to be almost TOO loose. The top strap is a little looser than the back. I found the pillow "inflates" a little bit (like the Resmed Activa), and it fits better as it warms up. I adjust the pillow a couple of times before I fall asleep. I read somewhere that the FX pillow generally should be one step lower in size than the LT. This makes sense to me, since I had to use a large pillow with the LT and now use a medium with the FX. Also, make sure the inner seal on either nare pillow isn't inverted. It's easy to miss and makes the mask leak more.
Hope it's good, expensive perfume...
Regards,
Al

Interesting! I use a size larger in the FX than I do in the LT!akeegan wrote:I read somewhere that the FX pillow generally should be one step lower in size than the LT. Maybe because I got my nose broken as a youth. I probably need a medium on one side and a large on the other...bigk wrote:Interesting! All seriousness aside, maybe FX users should consider trying the small, medium and large pillows that come with the FX to see which one leaks least.
Re: ResMed Swift FX
I've been trying to use the FX over the past 2 weeks. Still pretty new to the whole CPAP thing, about 2 months or so, but I have yet to find an adjustment combination that has come close to equaling the success I get, in terms of leaks, when using my Swift LT. To me, the FX, is WAY better in terms of openness of design, light weight and headgear comfort, especially when sleeping on my side. The downside though is that for me, there seems to be a need for VERY critical adjustment and placement of the FX, as compared to the more forgiving LT. Using both a MED and LRG pillow, I use LRG on the LT, I seem never to remain long without the FX leaking somewhere, usually annoying small leaks, but when moving my head, even when on my back, I have ended up with BIG leaks with the FX.
Still trying but the LT, despite its minor drawbacks in comfort, for me is proving to be the best match, which most assuredly appears to vary by user...
Good Luck with yours!

Re: ResMed Swift FX
My mask showed up today and I got it fitted. So I thought I would take a small nap I could not hardly tell it was on and so quit my wife it is not as loud as the swift II. Tonight will be the test. Thank you all for your replies.

I don't understand how anyone can use the swift II. I lasted with one for around 10 minutes. It is as noisy as a jet engine. The LT and FX are unbelievable advances on it.

Re: ResMed Swift FX
Thats the mask (pressure of 7cm) I have used for the past month and I find it reasonably quiet, however that is a relative term since I have nothing to compare it to. I use a memory foam pillow and sleep on the edge of it on my left side. I'm compliant to average of 8.3 hrs/day usage and the only complaint I have is every once in a while the clip (the one with all the exhaust holes) sometimes slides over and causes a leak and I just wake briefly and slide it back into position. I did use a tip I got from here which was to use teflon tape (plumbers tape) on both ends where the small hose & plug fit into the sides of the Swift II to reduce the chance of leaking at those points.bigk wrote:I don't understand how anyone can use the swift II. I ordered a Swift FX last week after reading all the reviews from a couple of the forums and should be here on Tuesday after the holiday, so I'll update my findings when I use it.

Re: ResMed Swift FX
In comparison to early nasal pillows it is quiet, but if you were to say compare it to the Activa, I find it louder. Strangely enough ResMed told me they had done the audible test with the mask and it is quieter than the Activa. For me I think where it gets louder is when you start heavy breathing, e.g. when you first get into bed. The heavier you breath the louder it gets and this has the false sense that it's a loud mask.bigk wrote:I don't understand how anyone can use the swift II. I lasted with one for around 10 minutes. Once you get your breathing under control and settle down it's not loud at all. I think the perception is it's louder because you hear the air more defined going through the nasal prongs where you don't hear that on a nasal mask as the air is dispersed more.
Re: ResMed Swift FX
I dunno Dave. I tried the Original Activa and the Swift II when I first started on CPAP. I loved the Activa but even my wife hated the noise of the Swift II. When the LT came out, I got a moneyback offer from the company I got my CPAP from and decided to try it. I honestly could not believe the comfort and quietness of the LT. I also consistently have ZERO leaks with the LT and the AHI around the same as the Activa at 2.4ish. When the FX came out I decided to try it. It was even more comfortably and just as quiet as the LT. My AHI stayed at the same level but the leaks were back to the Activa levels.
Now with the S9, I find I have 0 leaks with the LT and an AHI of 0 as well which I really can't believe.
My one complaint with both the LT and the FX is that is vents straight out which really annoys my wife if I am facing her. The Activa used to direct air up in the direction of the hose and it was much better for her. I don't know why the swift has this stupid design.
