They gave me crutches, even had a PT person teach me how to use & walk around the room...she hadda catch me twice from falling. I NEVER used 'em -- if I had good enough balance to use crutches, I wouldn't have fallen in the first place! I rented a mesh wheelchair (cooler) with foot suports that could keep my casted leg up and a folding walker (get some egg-crate foam for the handles, my hands got black & blue until I got the 'chair). A chair in the shower makes showering less dangerous...saw one recently at WalMart that had a sliding ledge to make getting in & out easier...that was a BIG challenge for me.
Can't say I never used the crutches...I did graduate from the walker to a single crutch, then later to a cane. My crutches had padding under the arm and on the hand grip.

PCP thought it was "just a strain and inflammation".patdart wrote:it was misdiagnosed by my PCP, so it was 6 weeks later before I was seen and correctly diagnosed
I fully intend to raise it, ice it and walk it exactly as directed. I'm too suave, sophisticated and handsome to end up with a limp!!!
Shut up, Rooster! (in advance...)
I don't know anything about crutches or walkers, but I saw one of these yesterday http://www.eastsidelegup.com/ and thought if I'm ever in that position that's the way to go.
Best of luck, my thoughts and prayers will include you.
Happy Easter,
Fred

My dad has one of those power 4 wheel scooter things he uses every where, you should be able to rent them. His comes apart and fits nicely in the truck of the car and the parts can be lifted by relatively feeble female accessories. There are a couple of senior housing apartments near where I live and those people zoom all over the place with them.LinkC wrote: So, with all that in mind, we're taking our granddaughter to SeaWorld BEFORE the surgery...even if I have to rent a wheelchair to keep up with her!
I'll have lots of time to post updates...
Thanks again!
