Empty humidifer every day?
I was not planning to reply, but I need to. I am very new to the CPAP TALK forum. Virtually everything I have seen and read on this forum has been the friendly exchange of ideas and opinions. I'm not sure how or why any of my posts here, which included the initial post of my opinion based upon what medical professionals have told me (with even a disclaimer that it was my opinion), and a raw quote from a major news source, was deserving of a harsh response. After reading this CPAP TALK for months, signing up recently, and eventually venturing to participate, I must say that the reception and my first experiences in this particular thread from a couple people have really been nasty. It certainly makes me hesitate to want to chime in on other topics.

I have long been a fan of the old adage, "It it ain't broke, don't fix it." I have always just topped off the water, never even taken apart the humidifier, and never had a problem with anything funky growing in the chamber (THAT I KNOW OF), or any respiratory illnesses.
That being said, after reading this thread, now I'm getting worried. Have I just been lucky?
So, as a result of the posts here, I am now going to start dumping the water once a week. If I give this issue too much more thought and it continues to give me the heebie-jeebies, I may even start dumping the water every morning.
Thank you all for sharing your opinions on this matter. I still never plan on taking apart the humidifier, but dumping it out seems quite sensible and what could it hurt? I suppose removing the chamber frequently could eventually result in loosening the connection to the machine. Other than that, I can't think of a good reason NOT to do it.
So, again, thanks to everyone for weighing in!!

Never hesitate to chime in. If someone disagrees with you, they disagree with you, and will no doubt let you know. Please don't interpret it as being nasty. We are an opinionated lot, but for the most part, kind-hearted.snowloft wrote: I must say that the reception and my first experiences in this particular thread from a couple people have really been nasty. So keep on chiming!!!!
I agree, please don't take peoples opinions personally! My husband has a favorite saying, "Opinions are just like a**holes, everybody's got one". And also don't forget that the people not getting enough sleep are probably a little cranky and maybe not as nice as maybe they should be.neversleeps wrote:Never hesitate to chime in. So, please don't stop chiming in. We need all of the opinions we can get when it comes to such a frustrating contraption such as the cpap machine.
My mother always says, "Attitude is Everything".
My problem is that I've got way too much of it!

Wow! I was just going to say that!!tomjax wrote:I recently had a major paradigm shift on my assertion that science is deductive reason driven and later realized and agreed inductive reasoning process were the real reason for scientific advances. I had a major thought process and logic failure.
snowloft, I went back and reread what you posted and the responses after reading your comment, quoted above.snowloft wrote:I was not planning to reply, but I need to. My interpretation is that people were disagreeing with what was said in the quote, but I didn't see any of it as an attack on you. Obviously you perceived it differently, I'm sorry to say.
As you undoubtedly know by now there is a lot of good-natured bantering going on between people on this forum. It would be extremely unusual for it to be anything mean-spirited.
I hope you can shrug it off as one of those internet misunderstandings that arise because of the difficulty of communicating with only words, and not tone, gesture or expression.

Here is a link that may answer some of the questions. I remember a better link regarding this, but can't find it right now.

Dang BP, speak up earlier!! That kinda says it all. I have topped mine off every few nites for the last two years, clean occasionally. I leave the tubing attached to help keep it sealed also.I think cleaning the mask is probably more important.
