The full face mask needs a new PR guy

Post by DCTom » Wed Oct 12, 2005 3:47 am

I've really struggled with CPAP, but never tried the full face mask because all I hear is negative things about it. "They leak...too big...too noisy...etc." Even CPAP.com does not recommend it as a first-line. But I gave it a try last night and WOW, did I love it. Finally my mouth and nose can work together again. Easy seal, no leaks, comfortable. Perfect. So anyone who is struggling with CPAP, give the full face mask a try before giving up.

If I had known I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

I agree. I used a Mirage Ultra FF mask during my tritation study and was amazed at how well I "took" to it. so it is now in my rotationand I end up wearing it a couple of nights a week.

Ultra full face mask

Yes, it's the exact same thing, just covers both nose and mouth. What I like about it is that you don't have something pressing up against your upper-lip. And your mouth and nose don't feel divorced anymore. For me, it leaked a lot less than any nose mask I've ever used. And I slept on my side/stomach.

No, it is not. It lacks the inflatable cushion "Active seal" that the Activa has. (which is the key to the Activa's functionality)

I assume none of these FF masks work well for those of us sporting fashionable beards, right?

I used the full face mask for my 1 week trial. I hated it! I felt smothered and my nose broke out terribly. I am a person who likes a sip of water during the night. With my nasal activa, there are no pressure points to ruin my nose and I barely open my mouth and take a sip of water with a straw. I use a chin strap to keep my mouth shut.

Only thing I hate about all this is not being able to talk when your mask is on!
