DC Inverter for Black & Decker Electromate 400

Post by dtsm » Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:25 pm

After the last power outage here, I pretty much decided it's time to get backup power. JohnF did great backup power system but being a complete klutz, and after searching forum (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37224&p=324228&hili ... er#p324228) , decided the B&D electromate 400, available amazon.com for $109.00 (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-VEC0 ... 276&sr=8-1) is a good solution.

I know it will run at least one day on ac power but needs a dc inverter to get more than 1 day. When I searched for dc inverter, the resmed inverter is $79.99. I looked at amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... er&x=0&y=0) and they show variety of models and price points.

Can someone help point me to a more reasonably priced inverter? Or am I pretty much stuck with the ResMed one?

Sure. There are all sorts of units out there:

You will probably need a 150 watt DC inverter (converts DC to AC). However, be aware that with these cheaper humidifiers you can NOT use your heated humidifer. But for a night or two it should not be a problem. You can keep the humidifer off and use it as a passover humidifier.

And of course, you can probably find one at your local Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Fry's ....

Keep in mind that any except the ResMed will void any remaining warranty you might have; and could very well damage your machine. Sometimes cheap is expensive...
