It is a legitimate concern. EDS is probably closer to what I have. There are probably levels of functionality. I don't think cataplexy is involved in mine.

jnk, I guess we'll find out what insurance will pay for.

In my opinion, it would be great if they would at least pay for a PSG trial/titration on the machine, then a one-month rental, and then let the doc assess from there. Seeing how you respond to that form of treatment ought to be part of the diagnostic process, seems to me. But I have no idea if it can work that way. In fact, that may rank right up there with many of my other silly ideas on such matters (like effort belts for home machines, for example).

That is, in fact, how most insurance companies do that. They require a titration with an ASV unit. And then they rent to own. They then also require compliance information to prove you are using that expensive machine - not just using it as a doorstop.

That is what they are doing with me. A retitration on CPAP, then a titration on the ASV (same sleep study), then I will get a script. The downside to that is waiting for doctor appointments, waiting for the sleep study, waiting for the script, waiting for insurance approval ...

In the meantime, I moved myself from CPAP to Bipap (based on previous sleep studies). Doing **much** better after months of struggling, finally, but still screwed up. So I am moving to a Bipap S/T. Hopefully I will have it almost solved it before they even do the sleep study. Hope it still shows up on the study though -the ASV will help more! Can you get too healthy?

I might be in a barter position. I think he may see this as an opportunity for the RT's in his sleep lab to learn about the latest technology in return for help with titration at home, since he knows I'm going to do it anyway.

Looking at all the options:

Does this reader work with the VPAP Adapted SV/ SV Enhanced?

Cheers...

Does the VPAP Adapt SV have a card built in if it doesn't have a ResLink unit?

Is the following USB Adapter used to download the basic data that is stored on the machine? Then the reader and card above would be used only if a ResLink is attached? The machines didn't/don't automatically include a ResLink?

ResScan USB Adapter for ResMed S8 and S8 II Series Machines

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... chine.html

Any differences between the Enhanced and previous units on data? Geez, these are really ready for a refresh! At that price point they could shove in an i7 Quad Core with Bluetooth and text messaging ....

So my take on the ASV is this:

You can use the USB adapter to download basic data that is recorded on the machine. Or, you can add a ResLink (if you could still buy one) with a SmartCard to record more detailed data. Then buy the card reader to download to ResScan. ResLink adds this data:

Send ResLink home with a patient to record 9 significant parameters

Effectiveness data includes

oximetry
pressure response
leak
apneas/hypopneas
minute ventilation
flow limitation
snore
SpO2,
pulse rate

How limited is the data without ResLink? Daily summary of leak rate, AHI, etc? The same as what is displayed on the LCD?

Are ResLink units available used? How much are they used, or were they new?

Thanks!!

You would need a card reader ONLY if you have the ResLink module on your unit.

Otherwise you will need to use an null modem cable. They are fairly cheap and can be purchased from a company such as NewEgg or ProVantage or ...

Nope it's a null modem cable. It's fairly cheap. You might need a USB to serial adapter. I can help you configure it for your computer and system when the time comes. The parts are pretty cheap.

Thanks John!

I bought a VPAP Adapt SV today!! It should get here on Saturday!

I don't think it has a ResLink module, I'll have to see about picking that up once it gets here. It is fairly new, pretty limited use, like 20 hours. They didn't know too much about it though.

I think I have a null modem cable. I was going to hack a NAS that I have to load another OS on t, maybe Winfows Home Server or FreeNas or similar. Never got around to it, I decided I liked the box just fine as it is once I could get remote, wireless login to it (the web interface was a little too basic.)

I will probably get a Bipap Auto SV from insurance after my test. Then I will have to decide if I should keep both. I may try to stall and wait for the new System One ASV if I am doing OK with the ResMed.

Excited! Maybe I can **finally** have a day with no headache? It's been years ...

Cheers - and thanks!

Michael,

The Vpap adapt SV as JohnB says, can be accessed quite well by a null modem cable & ResScan (any version from 3.7 on).

If you can locate a ResLink, they used to go for about $200 if you knew where to get one. Slinky & I have a source. But, he
did say that the ResLink was going out of production. Be aware that there is one version for the Vpap Adapt SV (and any S7
based Resmed such as the Vpap IIIs & S7 Spirit & Elite etc: ) AND a quite different version for the S8 based machines. BUT,
both of these Reslinks use a stock standard SM card (Smart Media) which can be read by any el cheapo ($10 from Amazon),
reader. DO NOT CONFUSE SM data card with the narrow S8 datacard & datacard reader. They are as alien from the SM
datacard as Sony Memstick is to an SD card.

The ResLink module DOES gather more data & save it on the SM card than the machine internal memory. So ResLink is a
useful addon to a Vpap Adapt SV. ResLink also allows for attachment of an overprice under whelming SpO2 module. But
these cost a lot extra & are no match for the modern low cost high performance all-in-one finger SpO2 probes. Just ask
Slinky what she thinks of hers

I know this is cliche territory but I am telling you, you will *love* your Vpap Adapt SV as long as you get your mask sorted
out. It is the best !. But mask leaks turn it into a sleep messing monster.

Good luck

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

Thanks you guys. I know you brought up the null modem cable before, but I'd forgotten.
What about something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/SIIG-ID-SB0011-S1 ... B001AZTABE
Image

With bluetooth to serial, you could just drop the cable and drop the reslink altogether if you have bluetooth on your computer.

Then it's just a case of assigning the port in ResScan 3.10, yes?
In which case, the laptop would have to be on all night recording, too.

Would this type of setup give you all detailed data sans flow?

Or you could go with something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 2-203-018-_-
Image
with this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
Image
Which would be yards cheaper and less elegant, but wouldn't fry your brain all night while you sleep...
