If you put your copper parts in the oven on broil for a few minutes, the copper will change colors. Copper -> Pinkish -> Purple(ish) -> golden -> brownish.
If you do this be careful with the copper as it is hot... You will need to cool it in water quickly (watch out for steam burns).
See below for the original and the after version (heat treated on top and original on the bottom).

Nice! I made a similar one that mounts on the wall next to my bed. Works great!
