Thanks DreamDiver for taking the time to record this.
It's the first thing I noticed when using the S9. Didn't hear it in the shop, but once home, yep there is a strange noise when exhaling.
Having a S8 Ellite previously, it never made this noise.
When i wake up during the night, or in the morning, the noise has gone away.

The other odd noise, is when pushing on the information or setup silver buttons. They make an odd chirp now and then when pushed. Plastic on plastic I suspect. The S8 had better buttons.

I also have the "chirp" at the end of an exhale. Have had machine 1 week, and it started yesterday evening. Did not seem to be "chirping" this morning though. Using a Fisher Paykel Full Face mask, but it is the machine where the sound comes from. Negligible now, but later????

Hi guys,

I'm new to CPAP and am trialling an S9 Elite with a view to purchasing it in about a month.

I've also noticed the exhale wind noise that DreamDiver pinpointed.

How have you all found it in the last few months?

I only heard it faintly, on the 1st night. The 2nd night, I listened for it, but it was gone, and I haven't heard it since.

Same here. I often wake up at night and stick my hand over the vent to see if blowing. We have an S8 and a S9 running (his and hers ) and the only noise I hear at night is the sound of my husband leaking all over the place because he is refusing to use a full face mask or tape.

I still hear it occasionally, but it seems to have gotten less noticeable with time.

It is still there occasionally, but I have to think about it to notice it. Like everyone else has indicated, it doesn't amount to much.

I run mine in Auto mode and have never noticed the chirp noise. Like others have said I have to actually pull the mask away from my face a bit to see if it's actually blowing any air.

DreamDiver,

Thanks a lot for providing the recording.

I've been agonizing over buying the S9 since I first read some posts about the dreaded whistle noise.

So I have started looking at the new PR S1 Remstar 60 series.

From what I have read, some people experience the noise and some don't. BUT... perhaps those that "don't" are just not bothered by the noise or assumed it was "normal".

I've been using a Respironics Remstar Auto for 5 1/2 years and have never heard any noise otgher than the sound of the air being pumped/expelled. I've never hard any sort of mechanical noise or whistling.

I'm still torn between the two machines.

Tim

Get an S9 AutoSet, imo. See if your doc will write (or rewrite) an RX for you. You get CPAP and the alternative Auto mode in one machine for just a few bucks more. It's prudent to have the alternative Auto mode for potential future use or for occasional at-home self-titration expermentation. To me, it's like getting a new computer with more capability than I need right now. Food for thought. All the best.
