Can I leave my cpap out in the cold?

Post by talktobon » Sun Mar 07, 2010 8:34 pm

I have to go on a business trip the next few days. Is it OK to leave my CPAP in the car all day in the cold Indiana weather? We're near freezing right now.

I don't think the cold will hurt it. The only problem could be when you bring it into a warm place. Electronics don't like moisture and you might want to give it time to warm up and dry out from the swetting of bringing it in from a cold place before pluging in the power cord.

I agree with 6PtStar - allow yourself enough warm-up time for the machine. In other words, if you go to sleep at ten, make sure the machine is inside and warming up still enclosed inside it's luggage for a couple hours before you use it to prevent condensation on the electronics.

personally, I wouldn't leave it out in the cold...it is an expensive piece of equipment that I feel my life depends on...as much of a pain as it would be to carry around, I would bring it in with me and carry it, but that is just my own personal opinion. I don't know if being out in the cold all day would actually hurt it, but why take the chance?

There's also a chance some dolt could steal it from your rental car. Why even think about losing a machine you really can't afford to lose. I am over the fence and standing on preemiern's side, agreeing that it's probably for the better to have it with you until you get to your hotel.

Some good points here. The one thing I thought of was make sure your humififieris DRY. Icing up could crack the plastic or open up a crack that ruins the machine later.

For an M Series CPAP, there won't be any problem as long as the temperature is above -4° F and below 140° F.

I would keep it in the trunk so that it doesn't tempt thieves (and the trunk may be a bit cooler than the inside of the car during the summer).
