Headaches with taped mouth
Headaches with taped mouth
started cpap on pressure 8. I use nasal pillows and I was waking up with very dry mouth. I read on the site about using tape which worked great but when I use the tape I wake up with a bad headache near my forhead and it lasts all day long. I am thinking I need a full face mask because it is some sort of sinus issue. I dont have a stopped up nose or anything but cannot think of what else it could be. Any suggestions??

Re: Headaches with taped mouth
What machine do you use? Do you use a humidifier? Humidification is VERY important.
Are you able to access your numbers each morning? If your mouth is dry, you're probably losing alot of air out your mouth and its not going to your lungs.
Can you check your leak rate? Also........even if you're taping your mouth, your air can come back out your nose if the obstruction is greater than your cpap pressure.

I think it is the S8 Escape II. I use the heated humidifier also with it. I cannot access my numbers. Yes the mouth is very dry without the tape so i know im opening my mouth when I sleep at least for part of the time. The tape solves this but everytime i use the tape and am not able to open my mouth during sleep I have an awful headache.

Your machine is not capable of recording anything more than hours used.john67 wrote:I think it is the S8 Escape II. I use the heated humidifier also with it. I cannot access my numbers. Get a full face mask. Do nasal cleansing/rinses before bedtime. Turn the humidifier down or off.......too much humidity can actually contribute to nasal congestion......which causes the mouth to open to be able to breathe.

Re: Headaches with taped mouth
All of the above, and stop taping immediately - it could be lack of oxygen. Taping worked fine for me for 4 years. Then things changed: I started waking up with reasonable AHI, a headache, and rather ugly oxygenation data. Now I'm learning to use a FFM -- taping is nor longer the right thing for me to do.Wulfman wrote:Your machine is not capable of recording anything more than hours used.john67 wrote:I think it is the S8 Escape II. Re: Headaches with taped mouth
I agree.....it sounds like for some reason you aren't ventilating, which can lead to headaches. Sounds like maybe your set pressure isn't high enough to get through your obstructions and because your mouth is taped, you can hardly ventilate at all.
Is there anything else going on in your life that could be giving you headaches?
