I just spoke with mt DME and inquired about my resperitory issues. I mentioned to him that I have always been a mouth breather. He suggested trying a chin strap, for me to come get it from them. (My DME is only a couple miles from home.)

If one was a mouth breather normally, how do we know if we are still mouth breathing with our nasal pillows mask, and if that would be contributing to my resperitory issues? I checked my cpap info and i says no large leaks since I have had it for 4 days. So I dont know if I am still mouth breathing or not...(leaking I guess)..I do notice a slight pressure sometimes in my mouth and I get air out of the corners, but it seems like I correct it with my tongue right away.

Chin straps are mostly useless unless you have the right shape face but you can still leak through loose lips. Get a hybrid or full face mask like quatro

I agree. Chin strap, tape, Polident to glue your lips together... I've tried them all, and they all work, and they are all a pain. They would be my last resort. I finally found the Mirage Liberty mask. It covers the mouth and has nasal pillows. With a few minor modifications it works great for me. Check it out on cpap.com

I too recently started.. actually it is a month today. And I agree with others, go ahead and try a full face mask if you are a mouth breather. I have a FFM, the Quattro, and really like it a lot. But for me, my numbers are much better when I use a nasal mask. I now have both the Activa and Swift LT and like those as well. As I have learned in the last month, getting used to having something on my face has been a journey and at times difficult. But when I wake up refreshed and dreaming more at night.. I am so glad I am on this journey. Also, welcome to CPAPtalk.com as this is a fabulous resource!!
