That sounds so sad, Sharon, not only a loss of pictures. I hope you have memories of good experiences too.Severeena wrote:When I had to leave my home I lost all my childhood pictures.

I have a picture that was taken in May 1951, I was a whole 3 years old.
I scanned in my HP Scanner and it turned into a Bitmap Image, and it's 764Kb, and it sets diagonally on the screen.
Can anyone tell me how to publish it here?
Thanks.

I signed up for Photo Bucket @ http://www.photobucket.com. This is an online hosting site where you upload your photos from your hard drive to their hosting site. Then you click on the IMG link they create for you for each photo and you can just copy and post the IMG link into a post box here. That's how you can get your photos into a post box. Let me know if you need any help. You can always PM me.Tenpin wrote:I have a picture that was taken in May 1951, I was a whole 3 years old.

This is a photo of me as a toddler--not exactly sure of correct age. I am now 65 so I estimate that this was made approx. 63 years ago. I only have a couple of pictures of me at a young age as our house was broken into and the cedar chest that my mother kept all of her pictures in was one of the items that was taken.

Carley,
That is horrible that someone would literally steal your memories like that. Why on earth would they steal that of all things? That is always my biggest nightmare if we, God forbid, were to have a fire at the house, that I'd lose all my photos and videos of my children and family. I'm so sorry that happened to you. But this is one great photo to have been lucky enough to be saved. I'll put it in the next update for your yearbook. Thanks for sharing.

All of our digital pictures are backed up, multiple times, on CD (seperate from the system backups) and stored in a fireproof (OK, fire resistant) safe. So long as even one CD is still good ...
But all the older printed pictures are at risk. It would be a huge job to scan them all .

Lori,
I'm sure whoever stole the cedar chest didn't want the pictures and probably destroyed them, but they wanted all the other valuables that my mom had stored in there and the pictures were just an incidental. They were too busy hauling out furniture and the other items they wanted to bother with discarding what they didn't want.
Of course, you have to remember I am old enough to be just past the tin-type era. At best, pictures were not as plentiful and easy to come by and preserve as they are nowadays.

Carley,
I guess all we can do when things like that happen is to try to pull out some type of positive from it, like thank God no one was home when the thieves were there, or walked in on them while they were robbing you, so no one got hurt in the process. It's just horrible when things like that happen and someone takes things that are of no value to them, but are irreplaceable to the person from whom it was taken.
One thing no one can ever steal from you is your memories. So at least you are still in possession of those.
Take care.

For many years I didn't think any of my baby pictures survived. I grew up with two older siblings and am pretty sure that they shredded all of my pictures out of spite. That's the way they were.
Right after my son was born my aunt did some digging in her attic and found the one surviving picture of me as a baby, in the original frame and everything. It's uncanny how much my son looks like me at that age. To the point that it took three days for people to realise that it wasn't another Reilly picture. The only way someone finally caught on was that it had the washed out, late '60's color.
I'll have to bring it back into work and scan it so I can post.

It's funny, he was born by emergency c-section. He came out bald, red-faced, and scowling. My very first thought on seeing him was "oh great, he looks like my father". I never even told my wife that one. Fortunately I don't see any of my father in him anymore.Sleepless on LI wrote:Maybe when you do, you can put one of you and one of Reilly's face next to it so we can really see him an how much you two resemble each other?

That's the funny thing. I took a lot of guff from the family growing up because I *don't* look anything like my father (or my mom either for that matter). Lot's of "milkman" jokes at the family reunions back when I still went to them.
