how long it takes Clonazepam to work?

It is an antidepressent and is not meant for RLS. I don't know why a doctor would give this to you. Ask for Mirapex, it has done wonders for me and I have it bad!

With respect to the above, clonazepam is not an antidepressent. It is a member of the benzodiazapine family, acts as an anticonvulsant, and is another name for Klonopin. In my experience, it takes around 45 minutes for it to act. Here is some info on this medication:

Pharmacology

Anticonvulsant

Clonazepam's pharmacological profile is similar to other anxiolytic/sedative benzodiazepines. Its basic anticonvulsive properties are also similar to those of other diazepines. Clonazepam is capable of suppressing the spike and wave discharge in absence seizures (petit mal) and decreasing the frequency, amplitude, duration and spread of discharge in minor motor seizures.

Clonazepam is well absorbed orally with maximum blood concentrations occurring in 1 to 2 hours. Clonazepam is metabolized by the liver to inactive metabolites, which are excreted mainly in the urine. Less than 0.5% of a dose is excreted in the urine unchanged and from 9 to 27% of a dose may be excreted in the feces. The half-life of the parent compound varies from approximately 18 to 50 hours.

My wife also uses this medication in combination with Tegratol, the two medications have kept her seizer free for over 8 years now. Whoohoo.

Not sure where someone thought it was an antidepressant, it's an anti-seizer medication.

I've also been prescribed Clonazepam for RLS. And Spiritus is correct it is an anticonvulsant and used to help people sleep who suffer from RLS. I've found it doesn't even take 45 minutes for it to work for me. It probably depends on the dosage.

What I meant was how long does it take to work as in a few days, a week, a month?

Does it have to build up?

Good question. My sleep partner noticed a change right off the bat. I didn't even know I suffered from RLS until my sleep study.

I stand here with a bottle of Cpam in my hand given to me to get sleepy at night, and it says it id for nerves and anxiety and is in the class of Xanax. It is given to seazure patients in order to RELAX them. I called my doctor and asked if it would halp my RLS and was told no, take my Mirapex. The FIRST pill of this took my RLS away and since I got on it I have not had one problem. So.....believe whom you want but while taking CPam for sleep, my restless legs were worse than ever.

So we can argue or you can call your doctor.....your choice. Don't take my word for it nor the person whom refuted me above, call your doctor. Or in a few months ask for Mirapex.
