I'm posting in both threads and just updated some information in the other thread about what's going on. . . .
My choice, if I were in your situation, if you don't mind my saying so, would be to keep posting serious questions in whatever thread Rested Gal, -SWS, and Muffy are reading and posting.

Valid point, Jeff. Thanks. I'm having trouble keeping up today as it is since I'm working with RT, remotely, making changes to the ventilator settings, then going and laying down to see if the changes seem to resolve some of the issues. I need to go back, again, and try another change.
Sorry. I wasn't really making a point other than how helpful posters in this thread have been in a practical way. Post as many threads as you want, of course. Just don't miss out on the helpfulness occurring in this thread.
Hang in there, Madalot. You have a whole board cheering for you, you know!

No need to be sorry at all Jeff. I didn't any offense whatsoever to your suggestion. The only time somebody is really going to get under my skin is if they are blatently being rude, calling me stupid or insisting I'm wrong about something that I know I'm right about. And in this venue, there ain't much I'm sure about!!
Seriously, no harm at all.

In response to your question, I think the best approach is as you suggested:
Madalot wrote:I think I may place a call to my doctor and see if I can get her to really, really explain whay they're trying to do and why.
I mean, just what exactly is being treated? Is there an element of SDB? Is there respiratory failure (elevated pCO2)? Is there an issue with oxygenation? Or a combination?
Do you have all your test results, especially the ventilator qualifiers (arterial blood gas, forced vital capacity, inspiratory/expiratory force)? Do you have the graph from the nocturnal oximetry?

Muffy --
Can you come and take care of me???? I think if I had you doing all this for me, I'd already be sleeping like a baby and feeling better. I wish I had access to you and your knowledge at the start of all of this!!
In answer to your questions, no. I don't have any of that stuff. I'm having trouble getting access to my doctor right now -- not sure why.
But I think you bring up extremely interesting questions.
