An aromatherapy idea???
An aromatherapy idea???
I just received the pur-sleep aromatherapy sample pack. I was skeptical that there would be any effect, and after smelling the oils, I figured it would be a hinderence to sleep. I was wrong. One drop as directed on a pad, placed near the intake filter provided a very subtle and relaxing sent through the mask. It was not strong enough to keep me awake. Interestingly, it helped with the hot hair dryer smell when I removed the mask in the morning. I did not like all of the scents, but I still plan on ordering the starter set, so I can sample the entire system. I do still believe that the oils do not have any effect, other than being more pleasant and therefore more relaxing then the smell of plastic and warm deionized water, but I will always be a user with my CPAP. Anyway, I have seen many posts about aromatherapy and colds, many have used vick's vapor rub under or in the nose to help. My idea after trying the pur-sleep system, is to apply vick's to a pad, in the same manner as you would with the other aromatic oils, maybe a little more to get more effect for longer. This will still give you the effects of the menthol, without the risks of mask/plastic deterioration or systemic side-effects from absorption through your mucous membranes. Personally, I would not use it year round, as I find the aromatics from pur-sleep much more relaxing than vicks, but I will certainly try it the next time I have a cold. I would be interested to hear if someone has tried this, or if someone tries this due to a current cold.

I've been using the pur-sleep for years now. When I have a cold or just a litle congestion, I find the 'clear' helps keep the nasal passages open.

Yep, I have used the Vicks on a cotton ball and placed near intake. Depending how strong I want it plays into how much I put on the cotton ball. Important thing to remember is keep the cotton ball far enough away from the intake that it doesn't get sucked onto the intake or damage the intake in any way.
