Mirage Liberty - fantastic night!

Post by melissa1974 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:13 am

Last night was my first night trying out the Mirage Liberty, and all I can say is......wow! Is THAT what sleep feels like? I sleep for 6 uninterrupted hours!! I have no idea when I last slept for that long....I seriously think it has been years! To make it even more exciting, here is the data I pulled off of my machine this morning:

Leak 0.10 L/s
AHI 4.7
AI 1.0

I am just thrilled! Now, I know that "one night does not a trend make" and I am hopeful that I continue to have great results with this mask, but for today, I am AWAKE, have great numbers, and feel like I am gaining some control over my treatment.

And, of course, I have more questions for all of you....because you are all so helpful! What do the other numbers mean that I am able to see on my machine?
I understand that it lists my pressure, but there are also several other pieces of data listed, that I don't understand. I get values for each of these each day:

%Spont C
% Spont T
MV
VT
Resp Rate

Thanks so much!!

MV = minute ventilation = volume of air breathed in (or out) w/in any 60 second period, usually liters.

VT = tidal volume = volume of air inspired or expired in one respiratory cycle (breath), usually liters, maybe milliliters

%Spont C = % spontaneous cycled breaths = percentage of patient breaths that were spontaneously cycled (termination of IPAP and changing to EPAP).

%Spont T = % spontaneous triggered breaths = percentage of patient breaths that were spontaneously triggered (initiation of IPAP).

Resp Rate = Breaths per minute

Hope that helps.

Melissa,
I am glad to hear that you a good night with the mirage liberty. I use the mirage liberty too, but I keep getting leakage from the nasal pillows. Any ideas on how I can controll the leakage from the nasal pillows? Also, how tight is your headgear, how much do you compress your nasal pillows? More than 50%. Let me know. I also PMed you. I hope to hear back from.

Liberty user here, large mask, small pillows. Use Lanisoh to ensure seal. Not sure how much pillows are compressed, but they fit. Much better than the full face masks that cover the use. Sleep much better with the Liberty.

I use the liberty when I have a cold and was having the same problem. I found my best fit by loosening the bottom straps and tightening the top ones. This keeps the pillows in places. It is also very important to make sure the pillows do not collapse when you put the mask on. Last night my leak rate was .02 and had an AHI of .2

Thanks for posting that you had a fantastic night with this mask!

I tried it night before last with terrible noisy leaks from the mouthpiece and was thinking of returning it. I had no problem with the pillows, as I am used to the Swift LT...but the leaking noise was so loud (and umm...rude sounding) I thought it woke the neighbors

I think I will give it another try.

I had the same problem with this mask. I am still looking for the full face mask because my open mouth issues.

I have ordered some samples of remzzz for full face masks. The shape is to have the remzzz vertical so what I did is to use it horizontal and made some cuts to make it fit in the small mouth piece. I had not have any dreaded flatulent noise of any kind with the remzzz, the problem is I have a lot of leaks on my nasal pillows.

I checked the dial on my PR1 system and there was not leakage, but I have to check the card with the software. I also noticed that my water with almost consumed totally. I have noticed that the water consumption is only one quarter but this time is was almost empty.

I have read sometimes about sealing with Lanisoh, but how do you do that? Do you apply to the pillows? or to your nostrils? I have tried but not successfully, what I noticed is after awhile the Lanisoh becomes kind of liquid, kind of melted on my nose and it becomes slippery and I have leaks.

So, with the remzzz no noise, no leaks on mouth piece but I had also pain and leaks on my nostrils.

Thanks. I am going to look into this. It sounds like the remzzz is made of cotton which is good since it is a fibre I am not allergic to.

Do you get pain inside your nostrils or outside? I had bad leaks with the Swift pillows because the pillows were too big--after I changed to the smaller size it was better. I still get irritation inside my nostrils now and then and have to make sure I use the nasal moisturizing gel every night.

I saw a really detailed mask fix for the Liberty nasal pillows posted recently by BleepingBeauty that you may want to look at: viewtopic/t48808/viewtopic.php?p=446053#p446053

SleepyTaz- Those numbers are fantastic! I am glad to see that is possible with this mask!

SnoreslikeWalrus- Can you explain a bit more about how you use the Lanisoh?

Thanks for all of the great responses!

Lanisoh: i put a little right inside the nostrils before i put the mask on, then i put some around where the pillows meet the nostrils after i put the mask on.

Snoreslikewalrus....thanks for the Lanisoh info. I actually have some laying around from when my twins were newborns.....although I never used it for it's designed purpose. If I have leak issues, I will give it a try.
