the Didgeridoo works to relieve sleep Apnea
the Didgeridoo works to relieve sleep Apnea
If you follow the link below, it will take you to a page with a movie about the Didgeridoo and how it works to relieve snoring and sleep Apnea. It also has links to medical journals where this is discussed. I have ordered one and intend to learn to play it. I'll have to find a way to record my music so you can all enjoy it.
Reuters news service.
Regular didgeridoo playing reduces snoring and daytime sleepiness, finds a study published by the British Medical Journal. Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome are common sleep disorders caused by the collapse of the upper airways.

Re: the Didgeridoo works to relieve sleep Apnea
I believe we've had a couple of previous posts on this too.
Wretchedly hard to play, though. Had one for yonks, ex-brother-in-law picked it up when working in the NT. Not a souvenir either, but the genuine article from the locals. Only got rid of it a year or two ago, damn it. Before I read the posts, naturally. Only ever could play it until I needed to take a breath! That circular breathing escapes me altogether, not that I knew I'd have a reason to try harder at it!
If I'd known about its effect on apnea, I'd have kept it & had another go or two!!

Just last night my husband asked me if I was going to play my (CPAP) digeridoo while I slept.

Ten bucks, 20 minutes, and a trip to Home Depot will fix you right up!

It's a VERY simple instrument. Heck, even a musician could build one, with help from an adult... PLAYING it is the real challenge!
(Sorry, Australia, if this impacts your economy... We've got a few problems with our own right now!)

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Hi All
Sounds like a good idea, LinkC, but for one thing.
When you have given up trying to play the plastic pipe, all you have left is a plastic pipe
But when you have given up trying to play a genuine Australian didgeridoo, the didgeridoo becomes a house-hold talking point for the rest of your life. Add a few tales of how you used it to beat off a crocodile attack in the outback, and tamed a buffalo with it, and you will probably have a life-times free drinks as well.
I suspect that making a noise with it will possibly be enough for OSA Therapy, providing you get the breathing right. Actually playing it will prove that you have the determination to master anything.
Now that's worth a million bucks.
cheers

lol I had not considered the alternative-use aspects when (not if!) you've given up. Right you are!
On the other hand, repairing that leaky drain with a $500 piece of bamboo art doesn't sit well, either...
I just searched eBay and found one specifically for treating OSA!!! And it says "very easy to play", too!

There is a little discussion below about buying Didgeridoo on E-Bay and other sites as most come from 3rd world countries, India, China etc. I bought my 100% authentic Bambo Didgeridoo from LA Outback complete with instructional CD and a set of Mulga wood clapsticks from Australia for accompanment, they were out of Australian Mulga wood bullroarers or I would have bought them also. $103.00 delivered.
First, please indulge a quick yet informative rant
Buying a didgeridoo should be fun, but one visit to the didgeridoo pages on eBay, for example, can make your head spin. There are endless choices, bad photos, and very misleading descriptions. Also, many didgeridoos found on the internet are made with cheap labor in China, India or Indonesia, where manufacturing labor laws and ecological damage corrupt the very heart of what playing the didgeridoo is all about. Even on many Australian sites the didgeridoos are not made or painted by Aboriginal artists. L.A.Outback is different. We hope that our ethics and standards of quality appeal to you, and thanks for being here.

Re: the Didgeridoo works to relieve sleep Apnea
Time to reset my clock, another two months has gone by, marked by a free ad post from L.A.Outback. this month they should do a package deal, One large truck intertube, their Didgeridoo, for one low price seeing how they advertise for free on others sights with misleading health ads.
The good thing if you buy the package deal, you will be able to use the Didgeridoo as a paddle to power the intertube, and if you capsize in De-Nile, maybe breath through it underwater. Jim
Timer not reset for the next Didgeridoo Ad series. 00:00:00 and counting......
