Question about Split Night, 140, 180, 220
Question about Split Night, 140, 180, 220
I have recently bought a Respironics Remstar auto m series a flex on CPAP Auction with no problems. In the setup menu, one of the questions is, Split Night with the 3 options of 140, 180, 220. I know the answer is so simple that they didn't even bother to put it in the 55 page Clinician's Manual. If they did, they did a pretty good job of hiding it. Thanks.

-Split Night Time = Off (off, 120, 180, 240)
You want to choose "Off".
The other numbers represent minutes of time (2, 3 and 4 hrs.) that the machine will stay at a certain pressure setting before switching to another setting or range. It's for diagnostic purposes.

I agree with Den. You want to keep the "Split Night" setting "off."
As Den said, "Split Night" is a diagnostic tool. It's not a treatment setting.
Here's an example of what would happen if you chose a Split Night time:
Say your M auto is set to operate in auto mode and set for a pressure range of 5 - 15 cm H2O.
If you chose the Split Night time of 180 (3 hours), and started your machine that night, the machine would use only the minimum pressure (5 cm) set for your range, for the first three hours of the night.
It would record the usual data but would not change the pressure at all even if you were being slammed with apneas, hypopneas, snoring, etc. It would continue to use your minimum pressure of 5 cm for the entire first three hours and simply gather data about the airflow.
When three hours was finished, the machine would automatically begin behaving as an autopap does...responding to flow limitations, snores, etc., and varying the pressure as needed within your range of 5 - 15. And continue to record data, as usual.
Each night, Split Night would continue to do its thing until you go back into the therapy setup menu and turn it off.
For regular treatment purposes, the Split Night setting should always be "off."
