Humidity and AHI

Post by Snorkler » Thu Feb 04, 2010 8:23 am

I have a heated humidifier and for about the first 2 months of therapy I kept the setting on 1. I often had rain out which was bothersome. Then about a month ago I tried putting the setting to 0 (passive only, no heating). I no longer had rainout, I experienced less congestion and I did not have any negative issues.

Last night I accidently went to sleep with the humidifier on but I am not sure what the setting was. I woke up due to the rain out. I drained all the water out and set the humidity back to 0. Then I went back to sleep. Upon checking the results this morning I see that my AHI shot up considerably for the portion of the night that the humidity was on. After I drained the water and set the humidity back to 0 my AHI appeared to be back to normal. My question is, have others found that their AHI was higher when the humidity was set too high? Has anyone found a correlation between humidity level and AHI?

TIA,

Jeff

I think a lot may be due to the fact that so many people get nasal congestion with a higher setting, making it hard to breathe, or forcing them to breathe with open mouths, equalling huge leaks. A lot of people (Y's truly) don't use a humidifier at all, and have no downside to doing that. So while it isn't therapy in itself, it helps people who need it, but doesn't hurt people who don't.

Not for me. I need all the humidity I can get. Something I think the System ONe does not provide enough humidity even at max level.

If I don't have humidity then I have congestion.
