I have long been documenting different results with different types of masks. See, for example,

viewtopic/t37954/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37 ... 55#p343555

Since that posting, I have shared additional documentation, using Respironics as well as ResMed machines, at different pressure settings, consistently showing higher respiratory event indices (as well as consistent differences in other parameters) with a FF as opposed to a nasal mask. In my case, the differences are not positional. Explanation for the differences remain elusive.

I continue to alternate between Activa and UMFF masks, since each provides benefits not realized with the other.

I am new user and came across this old thread as a result of a search.

I am first time poster. A bit of history - I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in the early 1990's and used a CPAP for a few years but got to a point where I would unconsciously rip the mask off after 2-3 hours so I stopped using it. I then tried UPPP surgery, a couple of different kinds of dental appliances and then gave up for a while. I had a sleep study a few months ago and just got a Resmed Aircurve 10 VAuto last week. I've been using the Dreamwear nasal pillow and have been pretty successful in keeping it on most of the night since I got it.

With the Dreamwear, my AHI was generally less than 3 for the night though I did have some leakage problems as a result of which I tried out a Amara View FFM last night. The AHI was around 18 even though the leak rate was very good (low).

Did any of the folks on this thread (DreamOn) figure out why the FFM resulted in a much higher AHI? I actually increased the pressure at one point during the night from a max IPAP of 10 to 14 but that made no difference to the AHI.

Thanks in advance!

Are you using software (like Sleepyhead) to monitor your therapy? Or, just using the LCD data?

I've never used anything other than the full face mask in my profile, but have read posts on the forum regarding differences between the nasal and full face masks they used.
