Marks on your face from the straps
Marks on your face from the straps
Ive been using a variety of cpap machines for over 10 years. I use the comfort gel and its ok - my question is how can you prevent the marks on your cheeks made by the straps? If I wear them any looser the masks leaks air. I wrapped the straps in a flannel sheath but no luck. any ideas???? Ocean Viewer.

You might try switching to a Resmed Mirage Activa LT Nasal Mask. I have both it and a Respironics ComfortGel Nasal Mask. The Activa LT requires far less strap force to avoid leaks. I also think the Activa LT is otherwise more comfortable to wear.

I would second that emotion with great enthusiasm. The Mirage Activa LT Nasal Mask is amazing. The trick is to put it on with the CPAP running as it is meant to blow up and make contact with your face like a gentle balloon. And it does. The straps? If the straps are bugging you (I am not bothered by them at all) there are several manufacturers that make wee cushions that cover the straps to make them, too, feel like home. I have not found a need yet but I am sure that when I get tired playing with all of the other toys picked up online I will give them a try.
My latest toys are (a) velcro/alligator clip gizmo that holds my air line up in the air instead of down on the floor; and b) breakdown and well made pole that slides under your mattress and clips onto the air hose to hold it smack above your head at the centre of the pillow permitting you to roll over at night without pulling your CPAP off the nightstand or halfway up the side of the bed if you keep it on the floor in the dust bunnies.
My next order placed is going to be for lots of new toys.

Fall colours. One of God's gifts. Life is fragile and short, savour every moment no matter what your problems may be. These stunning fall colours from my first outing after surviving a month on life support due to H1N1.
Re: Marks on your face from the straps
I just talked about this with my RT today. I get marks on my face and she suggested that I put moleskin on the mask. Moleskin is something you should be able to get at a drugstore. And she said she used it with kids at a children's hospital when they had to wear CPAP masks. I plan to get some and try it out.
