Sides of Eyes bulging + Dry Eyes

Post by THE IMP » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:08 pm

Hi,

I have been a user of a GoodKnight 420E with a Respironics ComfortGel Nasal Maskfor 3-4 years now and it is set as a CPAP. The pressure is set at 12 - 12.5.

Since that time I have had problems with both my eyes bulging at the outer sides and my eyes are very dry. I have seen a Consultant about the problem and my eyes are fine. I was wondering if the pressure being this high may be causing my eyes to bulge? I don't think I have a problem with leeks around the top of the Mask.

I am breathless during the day and feel I do not breathe very deeply at any time. I am overweight!
I am very comfortable at night sleeping or taking a nap. I have come to depend on my CPAP machine and do not sleep or doze without it.

Anyone have this problem or is it not related to CPAP?

I have noticed that my lower lids are always just a little bit puffy. Not too noticeable though. Are you referring to your eyeballs protruding or your eyelids?

Sounds like there's more than Obstructive Sleep Apnea going on. I'd contact a doctor to disucss the breathing problem when awake.

I experienced dry eyes many years ago and it felt like a scratched cornea the first time...wow! Anyway, eye doc told me many people have similar problems and I have used a gel/ointment nightly before bedtime and it has solved the problem.

Re 'bulging eyes' - "might' be related to thyroid issue, common for folks with hypothyroldism (like me).

I'd see your doctor about this.

I agree you should contact your doctor re: the bulging eyes. This sometimes happens with hyperthyroidism or persons with hypothyroidism where the medication is too high a dose. Definitely need to check it out.

@IMP -- if I were you, I'd immediately make an appt to see my doc, in fact, I'd first ask to talk to him/her and describe this...this is not normal!
