At the time of writing the Resmed Autoset is rate 4.9 out of 5 on cpap.com and the PR1 is just 4.2 out of 5.

Is there any reason you are not looking at the F&P SleepStyle 254 Auto CPAP currently rated at 5 out of 5?

It sounds like you might benefit from the SenseAwake feature of the F&P 254 to help you with complaince.

To be honest I reduced the list to those two because both resmed and respironics have lots of followers here and in other sites, and those were their top offerings in the APAP department. I haven't heard anything of the F&P unit. The 5 out of 5 is impressive, but then again the sample size is small (5 people). Have you used this machine? Would you recommend it over the other two?

You do have the option of buying online and having the Resmed products shipped to an American address (friend or relative?) and have it reshipped to you from there. This also is something to keep in mind when you need to purchase filters and other parts in future for a Resmed xpap.
Yeah I know. I'm shipping it to Florida and then getting it reshipped here. Importing replacement parts doesn't bother me much... it seems the the local company never has anything in stock anyways, and they first sell things before they actually bring them over to deliver them.
titanus, no i have not used the F&P auto machine. but I'm tempted software available too and lower price, yummy

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hey all, I just wanted to thank everybody who helped me with my CPAP. I just got it (Autoset II) yesterday and tried it last night, and it is wayyyyyyy better than my previous S8 Escape CPAP. The machine itself is so quiet I can't hear it. I can only hear the air whooshing into the mask (nasal pillows actually), but that sound is much lower than it was in the S8 Escape. The best part is I'm no longer feeling like the machine is trying to choke me to death! I was never able to use the S8 CPAP because of compliance issues, the main being that I felt the damn thing was trying to kill me when I breathed out. On my first night I set the machine to open auto (4-20cm) and EPR 2 and I was able to fall asleep! It's a shame I never got the chance to compare it to the PR system one, but this APAP is orders of magnitute better in my view than my previous CPAP. My CPAP setting used to be 8, the APAP reported it settled down to 7-7.5. Being able to get feedback on my AHI is also great (the APAP says I'm at around 8-9). I've yet to try the humidifier.

Does anybody know how many nights it takes the Autoset II to titrate to the right level? How long should it take me to lower my AHI?

You got a great machine, titanus! Congratulations.

If it were me, and I'd been prescribed a pressure of 8 with a straight CPAP, I'd set the Autoset II's pressure range at 5 or 6 to 20, instead of the 4 - 20 you're presently using. But if you like the range of 4 - 20, that's ok.

About the AHI -- you might not need to worry about trying to get it lower if the AI (apnea index) that is already very low and it's the HI (hypopnea index) that is making up the bulk of your AHI number.

Here are links to my thoughts about looking at the AHI when using a ResMed machine. Just my personal opinion...

Wow thanks, that's exactly the type of stuff I was looking for.

I just found out that the S9 came out like a couple of days ago. Maybe I should've waited ggrrrr....
