Aura and Straight CPAP

Post by Sleepless on LI » Wed Sep 28, 2005 6:18 am

I recently had my doubts if the Aura could stand my 10 cms of straight CPAP as I had been using it on APAP mode and my machine stays on 8-9 cms. At those two pressures, it was perfect, no leaks. Then I tried it on 10 cms. CPAP and had the first night of leaks, which prompted concerns about Aura being able to handle higher pressures. At that point, I followed the "pantyhose leg fix" and it was a better night.

I am happy to report that with a little extra bending of the wire and positioning of the headgear, last night, using the medium pillows, too, I had a leak-free night with no need for the extra "fix" as I had used the nights before. I think the trick with the Aura is, the slightest of bends in just the right spot on the wire, or even the placement of the lockbox a cm. over to the left, right, back or forward on your head, can mean the difference between having a leakless seal or not.

Also, the rule of thumb to use the largest pillows you can that don't cause discomfort I'm tossing aside for this interface. I found that although I can use the larges comfortably, I get even better, more comfortable results with the medium ones.

So, once again, I am totally happy with the Aura. I look forward to the other members of this forum who have recently ordered theirs posting their experiences with it once they've tried it, too. But as far as I am concerned, I have never used such a good interface before this one IN MY OPINON.

I've used my aura "as is" @ a fixed 10.6cm with no difficulties. I agree with LoRi that fine tuning of the nasal seal and headgear position is critical, but the fact that the aura allows these fine adjustments is what makes it great.

Aura?

Post by sbr3500 » Wed Sep 28, 2005 8:02 am

Is the Aura a new mask? I have been using the swift and find it comfortable enough. But, I like to sleep on my side and find that sometimes my pillows "knocks the pillow/mask" around some and creates a leak ... or I am subconsciously paranoid that it will.

The aura looks outstanding for side sleepers and won't have those awful swoosh lines. It appears like it has less contact on your face really only touching your nares …. Almost like wearing a baseball hat?

Anyone out there that tried the aura and went back to the swift? Can anyone help me compare the two and why it may work for one vs. the other … and why people love the Aura?

I want to order one and check it out … but was hoping for some insight first.

Thanks,

-Steve
