Would this be safe?

As I recall the Vicks Vaporub jar says NOT to put it IN your nose but rather, around your nose.

I would not put it in my humidifier chamber either.

I don't think either of these things would be good for you and I doubt that it would be very good for your mask or the humidifier water chamber. I suspect you might have to buy new mask pillows/cushions and new water chambers more often. I think it would do harm to the mask and water chamber material.

Here is what I do with my aromatherapy.Dr. Breus's,The sleep Doctor says that Pillow Mist is one of the best and safest ways to use aromatherapy.The blend I like consits of Lavender Essential Oil which soothes and calms so you can sleep better. Chamomile Essential Oil has a lulling effect to enhance sleep.After I clean my mask in the morning I spray a tissue with the pillow mist and place it in the cushion until bed time.What a soft scent when starting to breath thru the mask at first.I do also have asthma or allergies Which this product has no affect on.I don't know if anyone has tryed this or not.

pmcall57So maybe this is obvious, but I trust those of us with asthma or allergies will think twice before using these fragrances. (Personally, I cannot even begin to imagine doing it -- but then, I avoid the cosmetics department in stores lest I have to whip out my inhaler.) Different strokes.

I think this is excellent advice. Fragrances are a trigger from many people with asthma. Even if the fragrance doesn't seem to bother you as you fall asleep, there is a risk of triggering after you are asleep. To my surprise, I discovered I sometimes sleep through asthma symptoms when I had H1N1..........I had desats with pulse ox and no corresponding OSA events!!!!!

......and just a curious thought, why fragrances during sleep anyway? I understand perhaps enjoyable before sleep..if you are unlike me and take longer than 5 minutes to be asleep. ...........but as you note, Different Strokes!!!!!

Otoh, seeing "oils" and "lungs" in the same sentence makes me nervous for everybody.

Everyone is different in this regard but that's me.

I have chemical sensitivities and can't go into the perfume departments of department stores and I'm unable to be in rooms with Glade type plug-ins, scented candles, or any other petroleum or chemical laden products. As long as the aromatherapy is pure, I am actually benefited by it - I breath easier during the night and in the mornings.

Wouldnt puting it in or near the filter expose your machines guts to the vapors of the oil? Seems like over time, you would end up with a residue coating your internal parts kind of like the hood above your stove... seems like a problem waiting to happen. just my 2 cents.

I used a fancy lab type q-tip to wipe the inside of the space that holds the Respironics M Series Pro micro filter and gray filter. Nothing there, so it's probably not getting into the machine. More importantly, the gray filter, which is washable and reusable, doesn't feel oily when I wash it, it washes like new, and smells like a gray filter versus like an aromatherapy oil. Whereas, the blue cotton Pur-Sleep pad never completely washes clean and retains an odor of the oils.

I would be afraid that the compounds may attack the plastic and gaskets of the humidifier. As far as my nose I use WATKINS MCO which is very similar. It also heals chapped lips from mouth breathing. Mine get so dry and cracked.
