:::waving::: Hi guys. I'm starting on Round Two of Addressing Sleep Apnea. Any takers on a "choose a BiPAP" thread?
The currently available choices, the "favorites" for BiPAP seem to be:
Respironics BiPAP Plus
Respironics BiPAP Pro2
DiVilbiss RPM
Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 425
Puritan Bennett KnightStar 330
There's also
Respironics Synchrony
Respironics Synchrony ST
VPAP III Bilevel
VPAP III ST Bilevel
cpap.com carries these. Are there other worthy contenders? Am I missing any? What do you BiPAPers think of your machines?
I understand that the ST versions, and, I think, the PB 330, are for people with central apneas - they are "timed" which I guess means they give you a push if you don't try to take a breath for a while.
The lowest exhale pressure on the Respironics and the PB GK425 is 4cm; on the DiVilbiss and PB KS 330, it is 3cm. The Respironics Pro2 has BiFlex. I am a small person and my initially prescribed BiPAP settings are
8 inhale, 4 exhale. My inclination is to request (from the DME - insurance reasons) the Pro2 - even though it doesn't go to 4 on the settings, the BiFlex should give added relief, right? As good as going to 3?? I don't know. Should I try and defect from Respironics, any reason to?
From my intro, an excerpt with stats: Diagnostic results: total sleep time 96 minutes, all non-REM. Sleep latency 16 minutes. "Severe sleep-disordered breathing". 6 obstructive apneas, 1 central apnea, 131 hypopneas. Average duration of apneic periods = 13 seconds, longest = 71 seconds. Oxygen sat went from 97 to mean of 93 with lowest 86.5. Overall RDI = 86.
