Hybrid Users--I need Advice, Please ?

Post by DannyP » Mon Jan 11, 2010 10:57 am

Hello. I have a Mirage Liberty Hybrid Mask that I use as a Back up tp the Swift Lt. I used it last night due to congestion and for three hrs I was Fine with the Hybrid Mask then the Leaks started--Not from the Mouth Piece but from the Nasal Pillows. I am using the Large size as per the Rt. No matter how I posotioned the pillows they would began to leak when I moved. I love this Mask and it would become my Primary mask if I could just stop the leaking from the Nasal pillows. I Read a previous post somewhere of How to Fix the Pillows to prevent leaking but I can't seem to recall what it was Posted as. If anyone has suggestions as to how to stop the Nasal Pillow leaking on the Hybrid it would be Appreciated. Thank You.

Ladies tights fix can be a big help: wiki/index.php/Hybrid_Mask_Modifications.

If you had three good hours, I bet stabilizing the nasal pillows with the ladies tights fix can give you a whole night.

Here's the link to Rooster's Hybrid tips. While it's intended for the (Innomed) RespCare Hybrid mask, it might help with your ResMed Liberty. viewtopic.php?t=14422&highlight=

I wonder if a Ladies Hair Scrunchie or a Stretchable Hair Band would work to secure the Nasal pillows Like the womens tights would ?

Yup. I use 2 small ponytail scruchies looped together to make a longer strap (the bigger ones are too big), then loop one end thru top headstrap near the clip and the other end thru the other top headstrap -- this goes in front of the mask on the outside of the pillows providing just enough smugness (for me) to keep them in position and eliminate a tiny leak that tends to occur at the very tip of my nares.

there are some pictures by whitebeard on liberty fix - he said it worked for hybrid too - it is a whole add on support system

I don't think that was the first post he made on it but I knew how to easily find that link - if you want more you can search his posts.

For goodness sakes, the ladies tights fix is much more comfortable and easier than that contraption. The cords are stretched against his forehead and just to the edges of his eyes. Looks very uncomfortable.

I can see from the photos that he has the mouthpiece adjusted too low and he needs something to pull up the nasal pillows. A readjustment of the mouthpiece might do wonders for him.

Very poor fix.

But if it suits him, let him at it. I just would hate for others to miss a good fix and adopt Whitebeard's contraption.

Danny is looking for help and mentioned scrunchies above - so I posted that

It is all a matter of looking at other people's fixes and adapting what is good in all of them for yourself isn't it? You end up modifying this and that from others to get what works for you.

Went to bed last night around 8:30 Pm with the Hybrid mask and was probably asleep around 9:00. I used Hair Scrunchies as mentioned by Muse to stabilize the Nasal Pillows and they worked wonderfully. Woke up around 12:30 for a Bathroom break and then Back to sleep and woke up at 6:30 am for another Bathroom Break and then Back to sleep until 8:30 am. No Leakage at all from either the Pillows or the Mouth Piece. All Total I probably got between 10 and 11 hrs of restful sleep and I awoke this Morning feeling more Rested that I have in quite some time. I think I have found the Perfect Mask for me now and the Swift LT is going in Storage. Thanks Muse for the Suggestion. And Rooster Not that the Ladies Tights would not Work---I would probably have --Well, you know - them Mens Dreams with something so Feminine so close to my Face.
