A computer science definition or this more colloquial definition:
http://www.google.com/dictionary?aq=f&l ... q=download

Since computers are now employed by the masses, I think the above definition supports that common expression when people say they have "downloaded" their CPAP data.

No wonder unemployment went so high, the damn computers are being employed and getting the jobs.

Actually, it's a "sideload". From Wikipedia...

Sideload
When applied to local transfers (sending data from one local system to another local system), it is often difficult to decide if it is an upload or download, as both source and destination are in the local control of the user. Technically if the user uses the receiving device to initiate the transfer then it would be a download and if they used the sending device to initiate it would be an upload. However, as most non-technical users tend to use the term download to refer to any data transfer, the term "sideload" is sometimes being used to cover all local to local transfers to end this confusion.

Card reader to Computer Program is a download.

Card Reader to The Cpap Utilities program is a download, Restoring the data from the Crap Utilities program is a Upload to the Card. jim

Does ResScan count as a "Crap Utilities program"?

Seriously is it possible to restore the data after I erased it?

Then there are the freeload CEOs who get downloaded with all the bailout bonuses to watch their comapanies crash and burn just like a Windoze PC.

More links to further confuse the discussion.

From my perception of the terms over the years, anytime you were bringing files INTO your computer, you were "downloading" and when you were sending them OUT of your computer, you were "uploading".

I think from now on I'm going to just "load" my data...

Anything else makes my head hurt!

Actually, the programs are only "copying" the data from the card and updating the database (Encore Pro) or generating a report from the data (Encore Viewer).

Quit complainin' about yer head.....you started this damn thread!!!

Is this one of those "technical discussions" that jnk was talking about in his poll on another thread?

That's the way I've always thought of the terms for those two directions. Well, maybe not "always."

What a spiffy new term YawnGirl found!

Nah, sounds too much like "wide load"... A term I've tried to avoid since my chubby childhood!

How about saying your working with your data or reading your data.

I think I'm gonna go with "reading" my card. It appears that any sort of "load" is between two systems: PC, network, server, etc.

You don't "load" to or from inert storage media, i.e. CD, DVD, thumbdrive (or, for you old-timers, "floppies"!)
