need advice from the experts here
Re: need advice from the experts here
Noise...I believe the ResMed AutoSet II is rated with the least amt of decibels of sound, tho the PR System One may be quieter. I love my AutoSet, very quiet, great data on the LED, easy to use controls. Just a thought.
I went from a CPAP to an APAP because I am losing wt, lots so far and lots more to lose. Like you, my pressure needs are changing and the APAP accommodates this more effectively.

Re: need advice from the experts here
I had a chance to use a ResMed S8 AutoSet II for one night. It was much, much, MUCH quieter than either of the two Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex M series machines I have.
One of my two A-Flex machines is a little quieter than the other... I've always thought it's a matter of luck of the draw coming off the manufacturing line, as to exactly how much and what sound "same model" machines will make, even if the decibel spec is not exceeded.

ok cool. thank you so much, you all are very helpfull. i get my new prescription friday and hopefully this nightmare will be over for now
Re: need advice from the experts here
just an update, got my new cpap prescription today. i did some calling around and was able to go pickup a remstar plus with cflex system one with the humidifier for an unbeleiveably low price with the refferal of my doctor. this place seemed to like the word "cash" lol. i would have had to wait for the resmed s8 elite and the guy told me the m series cpaps are discontinued and this was the replacement.
he not only took me in his office, cut open the box and showed me how to set the cm settings, but went through just about everything with me that i needed to know. its much more quiet, has less cords than my goodnight425, but also seems to be more comparable to what i used at the sleep studies.
also when talking to the doctor i was able to actually understand her much better thanks to the members of this forum.
thanks for all your help and tonight will be my first night on it and hopefully a good one

In your first post, you were wanting an M Series Auto w/A-Flex. Now you say you're getting a "Plus" model. The Plus model has no useful sleep data information......only hours used. They could/should have given you the Auto. If you're paying with cash (or credit card), you could have gotten the Auto (or any of the others) from CPAP.COM.

I believe the "Plus" refers to the new "c-flex", see below:Wulfman wrote:

C-FLex Plus is a new enhancement added to PR Pro and Auto CPAP machines. Similar to C-Flex, the technology provides pressure relief during exhalation based on expiratory flow. C-Flex+ minimizes the pressure transition and provides additional comfort when in fixed-CPAP mode. In addition, C-Flex+ softens the breathing cycle between inhalation to exhalation.

Before you plunk your money down for something you're going to be sleeping with for a looooog time, be sure to do your homework. We don't want you coming back and complaining how you got ripped off......they said one thing and slipped you a different model......then told you that the low-end model (Plus) is "data-capable".......it ain't! These pages are filled with those stories in various forms.

Re: need advice from the experts here
yes i was told by my doctor to get a cflex so that is what i did, it wasnt mandatory on the script, but an option she wanted me to get. as i said, this machine met the specs i needed, was available to pickup the same day with a 20 mile drive and the price was right. if my post is a bit confusing its because Im just learning about all this...
anyway first night run with this cpap and it felt incredible, 8 hours straight is a record for me... compared to that nightmare of a bipap i had, this is great

Re: need advice from the experts here
But make sure you get the M-series Pro, and not the Plus, which doesn't allow you to track your progress. You can order the proper card reader and software in a 'bundle' together with the Pro from Cpap.com
Re: need advice from the experts here
oh ok thanks, but its a bit too late, i have the plus series and could not pass up the deal i was given. i have not had this good of a sleep in months, it works flawless in my opinion and im happy as long as i get a good sleep....its very quiet too compared to my jet engine 425 bipap@25cm
what i dont understand is that the plus does have an sd card in it, and in the specs if im reading it right it says it records compliance data along with progress reports. i do not have the reader or the software which i can order, but the doc and the sleep tech told me i can bring the card with me on my follow ups and they will read the data for me.
this is the unit i purchased

Re: need advice from the experts here
The card only gives compliance data (and maybe 1-2 other unimportant-to-you things) which will keep your insurance co. happy, but not give you complete data that you can follow yourself on your computer. You will have to just go by how you feel on any given day rather than know that the problem could be a mask leak (and of what level), or that your pressure needs are changing, or a slew of things that can impact your treatment, as well as telling you on a day you feel awful, that your data looks great, and you therefore must have something else going on that may have nothing to do with OSA (rather than you're assuming any passing symptom is, and not getting help when you should). You don't have to settle for what you have unless you choose to. It's not too late.
Re: need advice from the experts here
cool, thanks julie. this will not be my only cpap as i may need to get another either as a secondary or just as a backup, but for now i think i will be ok with this one. i will however take that into consideration for my next purchase. Im just glad i can get a good night's sleep now, one night on this new machine and i feel brand new again
