Since low blood oxygen is consistent with death, the uneven weighting of the OSA severity scale makes sense. Anything which lowers blood oxygen levels significantly is a serious condition. That said, it is amazing some of us lived long enough to be diagnosed. My sleep study AHI was 96. And although my OSA has not appeared to be complicated by other sleep-related problems, it has proven very stubborn to treat.
Lions can and do snore....
