I wonder what type of CPAP machine he needs that costs £700 (US $1120) ?

Oh, never mind. I know: One that is purchased by a government bureaucrat with other people's money.

That would be a basic machine that doesn't record any data.

That's one of the problems when you rely on the "nanny state" to take care of you.
If that feller in the UK has access to the Internet and the mental wear-with-all to look up Sleep Apnea and CPAP, he'd be able to find CPAP.COM and be able to treat his condition by going out-of-pocket.......if his life and health are worth anything.
If it was me, I surely would.

Apparently they don't have an organization in the UK similar to Awake in America.

There it is again, "Gold Standard is CPAP". From this article I would assume that a "series" of very costly surgeries that didn't work was the answer so why bother with relatively inexpensive Cpap therapy? Sad and scary for Americans!

I keep saying leave my insurance as is. My insurance is a benefit that my union has negotiated as part of my pay package. The way it sounds my benefits will now be taxed at a higher rate than my income so the government can pay for those who don't have insurance.
I do feel sorry for those who don't have insurance, but I have given up pay increases to have this insurance and I go to work every day putting my life on the line to serve and protect the community. Yes, I have written to my elected officials and they dont' seem to care. I am sure they would care if we took their health insurance away, made them pay taxes on it or made them use the insurance they are pushing down everyone elses throat.

The best way to get their attention is to vote them ALL out of office. The payoffs in getting these last few senatorial votes has uncovered how corrupt our political system is......and has started a firestorm of outrage by the voters.

I agree wholeheartedly w/you, GerryK!!!! My husband was an electrician for GM and he gave up a hell of a lot of hourly wage for those benefits as compared to his International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers friends who made a hell of a whole lot more per hour but had to pay their own health insurance premiums, etc.

But then our government couldn't break the "legal contract" bonuses of the AIG crooks and idiots when they bailed AIG out, BUT our government COULD break the "legal contracts" that the UAW had w/GM when they "bailed out" GM! Both were "businesses" our government considered "too big to fail". But one "business" had LOTS of rich "muckie-mucks" to suck up to and the other had more "pee-ons" our government doesn't consider particularly important.

Guess which was which!!

Under the Canadian Medical System, Sleep Apnea is fully covered.
My overnight analysis & all equipment was provided free of charge...

Surprises me that the UK does not consider Apnea important enough to be part of the Health System?!

Johnny, I am surprised that you, as the owner of Cpap.com would take a political position on health care. I am not surprised at a lot of the conservative nonsense, and scare tactics expressed here by members, as approximately 38% of the population of the USA is conservative (NOTE that 52% is considered centrist to liberal, and in overall polls, 72% of ALL people surveyed wanted some form of national health care). However, as the owner of the company, it is a bit disturbing to me that you take a public position on something that is divisive, and controversial. Many here, like myself, are longtime customers, who come here to discuss sleep apnea. IN addition, you have customers from countries that do have universal health care, and they surely aren't in agreement for the most part (that is borne out on the forums, where Canadians differ significantly from some of their American counterparts). It is inevitable that there would be political discussion from all of us. However, you are in a difficult position, given that you do business with those of us who are pro healthcare, and anti-universal health care. To say I am surprised and disappointed is an understatement. I've always regarded cpap.com as the best DME out there, and kind of expected that the owner/chief spokesman would not take a controversial position that would influence or upset individuals with differing viewpoints. I kinda expect that sensationalism to emanate from Rooster, or Link, or some of the other zealots, but you?

Oops. Nobody told me this was a political thread. If I had known that, I wouldn't have posted.
