Do i need to buy a hose separately?
Do i need to buy a hose separately?
Hi everyone,
If I ordered a machine let's say Resmed Autoset 2, and a Quotro mask, do i need to buy the hose separately? Or is the hose included in either the machine or the mask?
Thanks.

If you dive down on just the ResMed AutoSet II, you see the descriptions notes:jjocelyn wrote:Hi everyone,

So, it should include the hose. Most base units include everything you need (of course you need to add the humidifier and software), but the base can get you up and going. This Product Includes...
- S8 AutoSet II Machine
- 6 Foot Hose
- Carrying Case
- One Filter
- Manual
- ReScan Data Card
- Power Cord

Re: Do i need to buy a hose separately?
Hoses are always included with machines, unless otherwise specified, which I've never come across.
Re: Do i need to buy a hose separately?
The hose that came with my resmed seemed overly tight to the machine and the mask. It took quite an effort to get it on. After spending the time to thread the hose into my snuggle hose cover and turning on the machine, there was a bad leaking sound that turned out to be the hose itself. It looked like it had been attacked by a cat. There were numerous punctures in the hose. Since this was not my first machine, I had other hoses so it wasn't a problem for me. In fact, I do have a cat, and the hose was laying on the bedroom floor in the bag it came in. There were no pucture marks in the bag so I do not believe my cat did the damage.
The above is a bit irrelevant to the question at hand other than supporting the answer you already got that the machines come with a hose. I am sure that a defective hose is likely pretty rare so I wouldn't worry about that.

IF you're purchasing your equipment from CPAP.COM, the hose will be included. If you're purchasing elsewhere, you'll need to investigate that on your own.

I’m pretty sure that the manufacturers always include a hose in the box with the XPAP. If you order from cpap.com you get the hose with the XPAP. I expect most internet / mail order houses include the hose, but best to check with them and make sure.
Similarly, manufacturers include headgear (the elastic strap part) with masks.
In each instance, expect to pay an additional $50 or more each for hose and for headgear at a brick-and-mortar DME. After your insurance (if you’re one of the lucky ones) pays 80%, you pay $10 or more each, out of pocket, for something that was included from the manufacturer with the XPAP or the mask.

Re: Do i need to buy a hose separately?
While a new machine will come with a hose a used machine may not. Keep in mind even if the machine comes with a hose the DME will bill your insurance separately for the hose.
Why do you ask?

I think the original poster is privately purchasing the unit. So, if the unit comes with a hose, then the poster does not need to order one.GumbyCT wrote:... Keep in mind even if the machine comes with a hose the DME will bill your insurance separately for the hose. ... Why do you ask? ...
By the way, not all DMEs will seperately charge for the hose. Many do, but not all do. I've encountered two that do not. Not only did my current DME not doubly charge for something included in the unit, but it appears they charge a VERY reasonable rate. I continue to be very impressed with this DME.

Re: Do i need to buy a hose separately?
My DME did NOT charge separately for my original hose. Or headgear for the 2 masks I've gotten thru them.
They do charge for replacement hoses and filters (which they were automatically sending every 3 months until I told them to stop!)
