I don't remember dreams. Not surprising as my REM sleep is less than 1/3 the normal amount. Not even sure that I dream at all.

howkim, how do you know the how long your REM sleep is? I'm interested in measuring the length of my REM and stages of sleep.

My dreams have become very realistic compared to extremely abstract before. I dream clearly almost every night. The dreams appear to convey symbolic messages.

is that your favorite foods?
sounds good to me. Although I have never had bacon with mashed potatoes.
I think it was because a friend was talking about making loaded mashed potatoes for Christmas, and they generally have bacon on them. YUMMMMMY! And cocoa cola, yes, it is my fav although I avoid it because it is so bad for you.

I was so upset though to serve it to my students I knew that their parents would freak out about it

I had not dreamed since my mid teen years. I also remember that's about the time I started being tried and having trouble staying awake in classes and getting sleepy when I began driving. Fast forward about 30 years and using cpap, I had my first dream this past spring. I woke up scared as hell not knowing what had happened. I sat up in bed for a while then realized I had been dreaming.
After that my dreams were becoming more frequent but I only briefly remember then, with no great detail. I still have them now just don't make a big deal of it in my mind as it's normal now.

Every sleep study I've had shows it. I rarely (perhaps once a month) remember a dream.

I used to dream profusely as a child and young adult. For the last 15-20 years I had remembered dreams very rarely -- maybe one every six months. I never slept very soundly, and I'd toss and turn a lot. I do remember about three dreams since beginning CPAP (2 months ago tomorrow!). I'm sure I am dreaming more often now, but just don't remember them because I sleep soundly since I'm not deprived of oxygen all night long.

During my first sleep study, time in REM was only 6.7% of total sleep time. Normal is around 20%. During the titration study (a different night, with CPAP) I spent 20.6% of sleep time in REM. Probably some REM rebound there, but I like to think that my sleep cycles are more normal now.

I would consider that an indication of very good sleep, myself.
Exactly. I agree with Jeff. It's most likely an indication of good treatment that is allowing you to sleep blissfully through REM and have plenty of dreaming going on, without having your REM disturbed by apneas waking you long enough to remember the dream.

GASP - entertaining, even if nothing more.

PatrickA - I can't even imagine that flavor combo! My daughter and her family love Pink's. Last time they came back from L.A. they tossed around the idea of opening a similar place locally. Just saw an ad for a new place nearby advertising "gourmet hot dogs". Seems a contradiction in terms. Now, if they ever sell a bologna, fried perch, onion and mustard sandwich on white bread, I'll buy it. Mom used to make us eat what she cooked and I didn't like fish, so that's how I camouflaged it's taste. Somewhere along the line I started liking the combo - still crave it at times. But peanut butter on a hot dog?!

Before cpap my dreams were almost all bad. Now they are generally nonsensical silliness with glimpses of reason based on life's recent happenings. No bacon on mashed potatoes, but that sounds good to me.

Before CPAP I remembered nightmares more often than anything else. Now I remember all sorts of dreams.

She-who-rarely-dreams (me) remembers TWO dreams from last night! It didn't seem like I slept all that soundly, so that's probably why I remember them (awakened from dream/REM sleep).

Despite waking up several times, I had zero apneas and AHI of 1.0. I did have to get up to pee, however, which was the first time in exactly a month. I stopped having to make nightly bathroom trips at exactly one month into CPAP therapy, and today is exactly two months since I've been on the hose!

Before pap (way before pap), my dreaming would be sporadic or in cycles (I never really paid it that much attention). I do remember one period when I literally was able to wake up, go to the bathroom or turn of the alarm on the other side of the room, go back to sleep and resume the dream - almost on demand. that ability would come and go - but again I didn;t pay that much attention to it to recognize a pattern.

The two or so years before pap, my dreaming was almost nonexistent. WHen I did dream, they were usually not very good - and definitely not ones that I would have wanted to resume.

WIth pap, I think I am remembering more of my dreams and more often - and they are more vivid. It is by no means every night, but I think more often than before. Many times I may not remember details other than a few things and vivid colors.

During my sleep study I got 0 Delta and 0 REM. Sleep doc said that if that were my actual norm, he didn't see how I was able to function (which, other than my job, was actually somewhat questionable whether I was functioning). Titration study showed 16.7% Delta and 5% REM. Not great, but a heck of a lot better than 0. And, I think it has improved as I have become accustomed to pap.
