Humidifier Increases Congestion ?

Post by DannyPh » Tue Dec 15, 2009 11:27 am

Previously I have been using the HH on a setting of 2 and always awaken very congested in the Mornings. Last night I forgot to turn on the HH and this Morning upon awakening My congestion was very Minimal compared to the mornings after usiing the HH. Also, it was cold again last night( 40's) and w/o the HH I seemed to be less congested . I will use the HH again tonight in the PassOver Mode and see how the Congestion is in the Morning. I could see no change in my sleeping Pattern with or without the HH other than Less congestion w/o the HH.

I just got off the phone with my dme who told me that my congestion from using the swift lt was caused from not using the HH high enough. She told me to turn it up tonight. I think I will turn it down or maybe even off to see what happens.

To much humidity causes congestion for me.

After the first couple of nights on therapy and trying to use the HH, I turned it off and haven't looked back. I use mine in passover mode all year round......the colder the better. Many others have reported having better breathing and lower AHIs by not using heated humidification.

If you do not need a humidifier in your house ( such as in winter months, in the north) you do not need a humidifier. The device draws room air into the circuit that is the same humidity as the room air. I only used the humidifier once, and never again for last 5 years.

People react differently some need more humidity and others need less. Some have congestion from too much and others from not enough. I keep mine in the middle year round, but I hate the way it warms the air. I wish I could get the same amount of humidity via passover humidification as I do with heated. I love cold air.
