newbie bridge nose sore help

Post by knf11 » Sat Dec 12, 2009 1:19 pm

Hi,

2nd night of CPAP. Although I haven't felt the instant relief I had hoped for, I am very committed to getting my sleep life back. My nose bridge sore and a fit of exhaustion after the second night are my concerns. I haven't felt a wave of exhaustion like this since I talked to my doc over two months ago, and was a little surprised it came after my second night of therapy (and it coming on a Sat when I have a lot of things to do and can't accomplish any of them). Any suggestions on the nose sore? Using a Zest mask.

Welcome to the forum. I'm using moleskin on my nose to help with the soreness. It's found with foot products in the store. Some put the moleskin on the mask itself. I haven't tried that. Bandaids work for some people. The nose does toughen up a bit with time. But I also switch off masks so it hits a different spot. I have a nasal pillow mask that I use occasionally to give my nose a rest. Many on the forum will have different suggestions, I'm sure. Good luck with treatment.

I don't have any experience with that mask, but I did have similar problems with my first mask, a Quattro. My ultimate solution was a Liberty mask, but that won't do you much good on Saturday afternoon. You might try adjusting the straps to relieve the pressure on your nose - often looser actually gives a better seal with less leakage. Many people do use the moleskin mentioned earlier.

Hang in there! With time and trying different things you should get relief. I was lucky and felt much better the first night, but still have nights that nothing seems to go right. It seems that every night is different, and I'm still searching for the "perfect" set-up.

Good Luck, and stick to it!

Welcome to the forum, and the world of cpap. Sorry to hear about your sore nose. It's common for newbies to tighten the straps too much. Or, it could be that this mask doesn't fit the shape of your face, and you need to try another one, if you're unable to adjust it.

I put my mask on while looking in the mirror, then re-adjust once I'm lying down with the cpap on. Then I move around a little, to see if the mask shifts and I hear leaks.

If you post your equipment under "Profile", others with the same equipment can offer specific suggestions.

I'm two weeks into CPAP therapy and my nose is starting to "toughen up" I put hydrocortozone on the sore during to day to keep out infection.

To me a mask is like a new pair of hiking shoes--deal with a few blisters the first few miles.

Good luck with your therapy.

Peace, Paul
