Would the Hybrid FF work for a guy with a big face?

Post by sierragail » Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:12 pm

I'm buying a mask for my son. He's a big guy, 6'5", 285 pounds with a big head, a full face, and mustache. His head is so big he can never find a hat that fits. Would the Hybrid FF mask work for him? He's nearly legally blind, so he could wear his glasses with this mask (he has to put his glasses on at night if he has to get up to go to the bathroom). Can anyone recommend other FF masks that will allow the user to wear glasses?

I have a hybrid

The problem I have is that there is a big distance between my nose and mouth and I have an up turned nose. So I added the rooster recommended ladies tights wrap for the nose to hold them in place.
It comes in multple sizes 3 for the mouth piece and 3 for the nose pieces. As long as you have a normal upper lip you won't have a problem

Hey Blackspinner,
Thanks for the info! Do you find that you still need a chin strap with this mask?

I'm pretty large and I use the Hybrid with a MEDIUM seal. The Large is too big and leaks at the corners of my mouth.

I suspect he'll do fine. And it comes with the entire set of seals and pillows so he can try M or L.

The Hybrid has a flap which fits under your chin and holds it in place. I can't imagine he'd need a chinstrap, too.

No there is a flap that acts like one. Only extra is the nose wrap. Rooster has pictures on a thread somewhere.

A full face mask is one that encloses the nose and the mouth. Contrast this to a nasal mask which encloses the nose only.

The idea of a full face mask is to allow you to breathe through your mouth and/or nose and still receive good therapy. So, in principle, you do not need to keep your mouth closed when using a full face mask.

However, some people get a very dry mouth from mouth breathing and like to use a chin strap with a full face mask to prevent the dry mouth. Even with a chin strap, many people still breathe through their mouth and discontinue the chin strap.

Only by trial will a person find how this mask (or any other mask) works for them.

BTW, make sure you get the true Hybrid mask and not the Liberty. The Hybrid comes with all three sizes of mouth cushions and all three sizes of nasal cushions.

I have a big face. Hybrid works for me. Don't really have problems with nasal pillows, but wish the headgear pulled more straight back on the mask.

Thanks to all who helped with my questions about the Hybrid FF mask. I appreciate all this help very much. I ordered the Hybrid (not the Liberty) which comes with all 3 sizes for the pillows. Thanks,
