Advice needed on mild apnea

Post by george45 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 11:29 am

I have been told by the neurologist that my OSA is "mild" and it won't kill me. Without the cpap I have 2.5 apneas/hr, min. O2 Saturation of 88%, and a AHI of 14. I've been struggling with using my cpap for 6 weeks with an occasion night of non-use. I have noticed no difference in my daytime tiredness no matter what my pattern of cpap use or non-use. I have bad days and fairly good days and there is no correlation. It seems that the cpap wakes me up as much as the apnea does so my question is why continue with this torture machine. It seems that those with the most success are those who have life-threatening OSA and are also sound sleepers who don't change position much overnight.

You have a very nice machine, but you provided no information on the most important and hardest piece of equipment to find and work for you, the mask! It is almost always the mask that provides the pain and discomfort during treatment. What masks have you tried?

I've been using a Respironics ComfortClassic, and it leaks like a sieve. It's great if I don't move and the pressure doesn't go higher than 5cm. I tried a Breeze SleepGear with Nasal Pillows. The hard plastic at the back of my skull kept me awake even with padding, I had troouble exhaling, and hated the feel of something touching my nostrils. I just ordered a ComfortGel, hoping it will seal the leaks.
