Had Two Dreams last night

Post by DannyP » Sun Dec 06, 2009 3:42 pm

Finally, after quite some time I had Two Dreams last night. Needless to say they were not Pleasant Dreams but they were not Horrible either but at least they were Dreams. I doon't know why I dreamed last night--whether it was from the Nyquil I had taken before bed for the Flu I have or what but at least I slept well enough to have the dreams again. I have been sleeping well every night with the help of 3 mg's of melatonin but no Dreams till last night. I can live without the Dreams as long as I sleep Fairly well every night. I just thought it Strange that I had Two dreams last night.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, here are my thoughts about "dreaming":

When we say, "I don't dream" or "I didn't have any dreams last night", we may very well have been dreaming normal amounts, but slept through the dreams so well that we don't have any recollection of the dreams or even of having dreamed at all.

It's my opinion (purely a layperson's opinion -- I'm not a doctor) that most people have to AWAKEN during a dream long enough for the dream (or at least a vague wispy awareness of having just been dreaming) to lodge itself in our memory -- long enough to be AWARE of the dream either in vivid detail or as "I just now had a dream but I can't quite grasp it."

To me, a better sign of good CPAP therapy is to wake up in the morning with no recall of a dream and no recollection of having dreamed at all.

There's a big difference between "not dreaming" and "not remembering that one had dreamed during the night."

Sleeping peacefully through REM (dreaming can happen in any stage, but REM is probably when most vivid dreams occur) without any "dream wake ups" (thus, no memory of dreaming) is better, imho. REM is when apneas are most likely to hit people, so if we're awakened for long enough during a vivid dream, and it wasn't an alarm clock or household noises that woke us, I think it's very possible that an apnea is what woke us up long enough to be aware of a dream.

Yes you know when you are not dreaming when your day time reality keeps slipping and you feel you are forgetting huge chunks but you are not, that there is an other whole reality which you are just missing.

Ugh glad my reality has settled down to one consistent version.
