But of course, taste buds continue to mature up until the mid-late teens. Typically, kids like simple foods, anything remotely complex will not be liked until those taste buds mature. As to why anyone with adult taste buds would prefer anything to dark chocolate....clearly it's because they are insaneGaryG wrote:...younger daughter would pick vanilla

I think that is the test for appropriate mental health. If you don't like chocolate, you are classified as incurably insane, and should be straightjacketed. But of course, taste buds continue to mature up until the mid-late teens. Re: I switched from APAP to CPAP
After the cpap experiment for 4 nights (back to my titration pressure) I went back to autopap last night (mode which I have used for 7 years of my 11 years of therapy). Results under cpap were average AHI of 3.8, and many awakenings for the 4 nights. This is yesterday's result:
% Days at least 4 hours 100%
Day Count 1
Days at least 4 hours 1
95th Percentile Pressure 9.0
90th Percentile Pressure 8.5
AHI 1.5
Pressure Plateau Time 0%
Leak Time 0%
NRI 0.50
EPI 1
SmartCode FT4F-F33-369Z
While Breathing Hours Last Day 7.8
DID NOT awaken at all, and dreamt like crazy! Very typical, restful night. Woke up feeling good (no "nirvana", but good).
This is quite typical of my numbers--AHI around 1, and pressure doesn't go much over the 8-9 range. I was titrated twice in sleep studies at 11, and that pressure doesn't seem to work as well. Not preaching about "autopap for everyone," just sharing results. Obviously, autopap works for me. As they say, "Whatever floats the boat."

Not trying to be controversial here .....but I'm wondering....when you did your cpap trial did you use a pressure of 11? But on apap you're in the 8-9 range. So, would a cpap pressure of 9 have been more comfortable for you?
And does a cpap pressure that's too high cause more events?

Last night's results
I'm having a pre-cold (that feeling of sinus congestion, but not quite sick yet), and slept for 9 1/2 hours. I went to have a massage, but my therapist said that having a massage could accelerate my symptoms in a bad way, and suggested I re-schedule.
My results last night:
Leaks 0
AHI 3.5
AI .1
HI 3.4

Re: I switched from APAP to CPAP
Oh yes, I have tried 8, 9 and 10 over the years at times. They work better than 11, but don't catch the occasional "rogue" event on a bad night. I get those occasionally. Straight Cpap on 8 felt good, but the AHI was higher, when I tried that last year for a week or two. Yes, sometimes a cpap on fixed that is higher than you need can provoke events randomly--they could be centrals (although my sleep study didn't show centrals), or just random NRI events of some undefined variety. 8.5 is my 90th %ile a lot of the time, so that is where it went, after experimenting. Why 14 at the top? To give it some headroom to avert the events from the rogue nights, where an unusual spike comes in (like an 11 or 12) for a few seconds. YES, from the graphs that does happen, and the machine DOES respond quickly enough to avert most of them. Not trying to be controversial here .....but I'm wondering....when you did your cpap trial did you use a pressure of 11? Well said!Autopapdude wrote:I think it is an individual basis thing, and I am beginning to back off from my "everybody needs an autopap" attitude. I think "everybody needs the best treatment for themselves they can get." Personally, as I have said many times, I really like the autopap, and had no trouble with the "learning curve." Sometimes, I think we all overthink things, in the quest for the "perfect AHI." I dunno.
And in a post on the next page...

For eating, any good chocolate works for me (unfortunately! ). I love Lindt, in particular (their truffles are to DIE for), but I use Guittard apeels for melting when I dip my homemade candy.Autopapdude wrote: Godiva or Ghiradelli?
Okay, enough talk of chocolate. Back to the subject matter of this thread, or I'll have to drive 35 miles to the store for a bag of Lindt truffles...

There's something we can agree on!Autopapdude wrote: I am beginning to back off from my "everybody needs an autopap" attitude. I think "everybody needs the best treatment for themselves they can get."
For ME, the "best treatment" is CPAP, with an occasional APAP self-titration to ensure I'm at the optimal pressure. Haven't had an AHI over 1.3 since I started that routine. Usually in the .3 to .7 range.

Well, we agree completely. it is clear that Straight CPAP is the best for you. The numbers don't deceive, and you sound like you have excellent treatment. Also, you seem to have a great doctor. There's something we can agree on!
