Lost data this morning

Post by BleepingBeauty » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:11 pm

I slept for nearly ten hours last night, which felt good. But I lost a good chunk of data this morning. I went to bed just before 10:00 p.m., got up to use the bathroom at about 4:30, and then continued sleeping until 7:45.

When I went to shut the machine off this morning, I think my finger bounced on the on/off button just enough to re-start the machine immediately, because the pressure kept coming, and I had to hit the on/off button again to stop it. When I looked at my data, it ends at 4:30, and there's no record of my usage between 4:30 and 7:45.

I remember reading something about this phenomena (hitting the on/off button twice, in quick succession) causing a loss of data, but I can't find that thread using Advanced Search. Does anyone remember this conversation and, if so, can you direct me to it? TIA

Hi BleepingBeauty,

Perhaps this is the post, by Velbor, that you're looking for: viewtopic/t47248/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42 ... on#p372807

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I don't know what you used for search terms, but I came up with everything but that post from Velbor.

From another post BB may not have seen since she was out on sick leave

That may be the reason I start loosing daily details when any session exceeds 8hrs, I mean by even 1 minute. The data loss doesn't occur until 4 days after the 8hr session.

So what I've started doing (when I can remember) is simply removing the card momentarily when I get up for a bathroom trip. Removing and reinserting the card starts another session and seems to prevent this data loss.

If I forget and go over 8hrs, I try to use many more short sessions to force this larger session off the card. And now noticed that I had some days with 4 sessions. I didn't persure this any more but just made a mental note that I exceeded the 3 daily sessions which was thought to be a limit before.

Also of note is that I have changed my Encore so the days go from midnite to midnite so I would rule out the time change as a contributing factor esp. since I believe that change doesn't occur in the machine.

I know, it can be difficult to narrow down the search results! I have problems with that too. Sometimes it helps to add more words. I may have used these four words in my search: lost data button twice. I'm glad that's what you were looking for!

Thanks, Grump. You posted that the day of my surgery so I did, indeed, miss it.

In my case, I don't think it's a matter of session length, as there have been three other occasions when I slept for 9+ hours (and many more 8+ hour nights) with no resulting data loss like this. I'm sure last night's loss occurred because of the double-hit of the on/off button (as Velbor described in the other thread, except his button-pushing goof resulted in him losing the data from his sleep session early in the night, and mine resulted in the loss of the more recent chunk of data, just before waking).

I don't understand why a button-pressing goof would cause data to be lost, but I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just try to be careful to push the button just once in the future.
