Data Recovery: Grieving My Loss!!!

Post by elg5cats » Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:13 pm

Has anyone successfully transfered ResScan Data from one computer to another? Were you able to do on your own. My defective computer (Vista 32 bit) will run for a few minutes if I stay off line. New computer should arrive in about 2 weeks (Windows 7 Preminum). My data transfer cable should arrive anytime!!!!

Thanks,

Recovering all the data from a disk is pretty easy if it is not physical damage or an over-written file. What is the nature of your computer problem? I recommend you stay off the computer for now. The hard disk can be removed and selected data uploaded to the new computer. If you are experiencing a HD crash, data will be destroyed and may not be recoverable. If you have a virus, the disk could be salvaged. For that matter, your old computer may be able to run by buying a new hard disk and reloading the operating system and programs, then finally rescuing data from the old disk.

I think my computer fan may have gone out...laptop quickly gets hot and shuts down. Canned air cleaning didn't help. There's a narrow black strip that looks like tape/belt that is protruding from the CD drive......I'm not using that computer now. I just know I was able to run it a few minutes to get a work document off before shutting down. I suspect the hard drive is ok, before the shutting down, my virus protection was not identifying any virus. I think it's a fan problem. When I contacted Worst Buy, they offered to ship for repairs suggesting it would cost $500. Laptop is 2.5 years old, so a little hard to put $500 into it. I don't know of any local computer repair places who work on Tobishia, I see ads for HP's. I've ordered a Dell with a delivery date of 12-15. A data transfer cable is included. I've never transferred data between old and new computer before. I hope can rescue my ResScan data and get my work access loaded up before I go on-call Christmas Day. My desktop is a dinosaur, slow and not good for much more than taking up space.

I have friends who do this kind of thing for fun. We barter home cooked meals and sewing for repairs. You need to find techie nerd friends.
