murphy's law? my luck? data cards and DME/Med insuance.

Post by xiola » Tue Dec 01, 2009 5:39 pm

so ive been using this for some weeks now with no contact with the sleep lab.

I accidently erased my smart card on saturday. I've since figured out how to leave the data on the card, but whoops.

and today i get a letter from my DME with a new card, wanting me to swap out my card and send it to them.

So.. if i fess up to them and tell them i accidently erased the data, how much "trouble" will i be in? I don't want to compromise my insurance's willingness to pay for this.

or, if i understand correctly, the smart cards only hold a weeks worth of data anyway.. so am i just better off to procrastinate (which i do really well anyway) and simply not reply to their letter until next monday?

Wait for them to call. Then tell them you mailed it on 12/1. Dogonne USPS!

Yeah I would be real slow to respond.
Then just send the card and say you were playing with it and accidentally erased some data, you think, maybe. I would totally believe that considering some of the support calls I have had this week - and it is only Tuesday. I mean you would think a flight attendant could figure out she needed to hit the "Confirm this appointment" button to confirm the appointment - right?

I would wait a week (or so) then mail it. No need to say anything.

Did you download the data into one of the Encore programs before you erased it? And, did you produce a report from the data?
If so, send them a copy of the report.......do NOT send them the card! For one thing, they would probably erase it, too and you may not get it back in a timely manner.

That's an excellent way to keep both cards to boot.

Keep in mind insurances don't always ask for compliance data on every one of their PAP using insureds. BUT - the DME provider NEEDS to have it on hand IF it is asked for. THEREFORE, I don't know how you identify your file in EncorePro - but - they are going to need your name, address, phone, sex, age and serial number of your CPAP on that printout you do for them. Whatever, identifying info EncorePro calls for when setting up a patient file is what will be needed.

That's what I had in mind with regard to sending them a copy. If you don't HAVE to go in to see them, this way you'll save time, gas and money.
If they don't like the fact that you have the Encore software to monitor your own therapy......that have to get over that, too.
