vista or windows 7?

Post by littleredtree2 » Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:47 pm

Hi
I would like the opinions of all The experienced computer wizards here.

I have a laptop with Vista. The laptop comes with a Windows 7 Home Premium® 32bit English , free. Which is in the mail.

When I do get my Card reader for the M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex…

Which Windows software would work better, The Windows 7 or Vista?

thanks

I'm not a computer wizard, but I wouldn't touch Vista with the proverbial 10-foot pole.

Well, if there is one thing I have learned after 35 years in the IT business... that is to not install the latest release of an operating system and expect things to go smoothly as there will always be issues. If you do decide to opt for Win 7... at least wait until Microsoft releases the first service pack.

I work on my notebook 8 hours/day and use Vista SP2 64-bit with numerous applications and have no issues.

My old notebook has Win XP and my next notebook will likely have Win 7... but my current stable machine runs Vista.

Encore Pro will run better on XP. Windows 7 especially if you go to the Professional or Ultimate some have been able to get it to run. Stay away from Vista, it is junk!!!!!!

well it sounds like putting the Windows 7 on my laptop would be a benifit over the Vista...with or with out adding Encore Pro to the laptop.

And If It does not work on the windows 7. I guess I will get on hubby's pc with the XP.

OH boy you tried to open that can of worms didn't you littleredtree?
Paul has lots of compter experience and some good advice.
I know first hand from experience that I could not get encore pro to run on a vista machine at all. Others have said they did but I wasn't able to and I mess with computers daily. When I built my new computer last spring I installed Vista ultimate against everyones advice. What do all the experts know anyway? Well, I liked Vista ultimate until it came to the fact that a few of my programs would not install or run under it.
I read up on what was ni windows 7 and read peoples complaints and weighed the facts into my options. I decided to upgrade my desktop to Windows 7 ultimate 64. The upgrade went way too easy. I just accepted a few things and waited for the other shoe to drop. Nothing, not one thing went wrong. OK, now I am wondering if I did something wrong and did a clean install on my backup drives or did Microsoft finally get their act together. I figured I messed up so I just rebooted and waited to see. It booted up fine. Next I installed my software programs and they all installed just as fine. Then I got to Encore pro and I figured now it's going to fail. I went and installed the virtual machine then windows xp virtual and then Encore pro. I finished all that rebooted and opened Encore pro and everything ran the way it's supposed to.

One of the things I really love about Windows 7 ultimate is the ability to do a file or a complete system backup to a network attached storage device. Not only will it do that backup it does it automatically unattended once you set it up.

Paul, I am usually one of those that waits, I don't like the first of any products be it software or a new car design or anything like that, but I think they got it close this time with Windows 7. Maybe the first service pack will fix the problems that do pop up.

I'm going to be sticking with XP until I'm absolutely forced to migrate to something else. At least IT WORKS. I wouldn't touch Vista with the proverbial 10 ft. pole......and Windows 7 is waaaay to early for anything to be compatible with it. (I usually wait until there's at least one Service Pack update available.) If past trends continue, from my experience, it takes about three years for an operating system to "mature" (till everybody catches up with applications and drivers)

Your best bet if they give you the full win7 disk, is to buy another hard drive from Newegg, that will work in your computer and exchange it with your orgional drive, then install Win 7 on the new drive. That way you will have the old crappy vista to go back too if need be. If you have wasted much time using Vista, you won't look back, if you can use 32 bit windows 7. Jim

I am certainly no computer expert but I did have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Last week I upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

At first I had a little trouble getting Encore Viewer to run. I really can't say what made it work. It certainly wasn't anything I did intentionally. I did have some trouble with the anti-virus program I was using with Vista. Even though I upgraded it to a supposedly Windows 7 compatible vesion, I still had trouble.

I decided to change my anit-virus program. Now Encore Viewer is working perfectly.

I have no explanation for the difference. I'm just happy that Encore Viewer is working again!

Thanks so much for all the help.

I have decided to add the Windows 7. ( I have the cd's for vista, if I hate it)

It seems what works well for one person, might not for someone else. But if there is a chance that Windows 7 will work well with Encore, I am going to give it a chance.

If it does not work...well I have reinstalled on other occasions. Whats one more?
Can't wait to get the Windows 7 in the mail. (free)

There was no real problem with Vista. The User Control Panel aggravated a lot of people, but it was easy enough to turn off if it bothered you.

Many of the gearhead tech writers panned Vista because they were mad because it didn't have a new file system they thought they had been promised by Microsoft.
Guess what ... Windows 7 still uses the same file system, but the same tech writers drool over Windows 7.

Windows 7 is really nothing but a big service pack fixing some problems with Vista. Uses the same core programming etc. etc.

That said, if given a choice I would recommend going with Windows 7.

I've been into computers since 1984. Don't proclaim myself to be an expert because I learn stuff every day.

Only problem I encountered going from XP SP3 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit was the printer driver for my Canon laser all in one didn't work and Canon doesn't seem inclined to make one.
So I had to buy a new Brother laser all in one.

I've had Windows 7 betas and release candidates on my owners laptop since they became available and never had any problem with it.
Now my main desktop is running it and, so far, no problems at all.

Nice and solid.
