Just went for my first and final follow-up with the ENT. She had scheduled it 2 weeks after my surgery on Dec 3rd. She looked up my nose and said that it is healing very well and that you could drive a truck through it. I did ask her if it would be okay for me to start using the CPAP again. she said that it would okay but to make sure that the humidifier is set higher to keep my nose moist.

Luckily for me, my ENT didn't use packing or splints. This saved me a lot of pain afterwards. Hopefully, I will get a good night with CPAP after not using it for about 3 weeks.

fsmitty-

If you didn't have splints you probably didn't a deviated septum. The splints are clips connected with wire that is commonly used to hold the septum in place. It's funny now because the doctor asked me twice (right before the surgery) what I was there for. Believe it or not!! It's done to head off a potential lawsuit. When I first checked in I was asked, then right before surgery I was asked again.
4 months out & I feel great. In my last visit, I was told by the Doctor that for at least 6 months after surgery (till Feb-March 2010) my sinuses will secrete more mucous.

Thanks for the update. Wide open and could drive a truck through. That's encouraging. THat's what my doc said after my four month followup for my uppp and tonsilectomy. My pressure requirment dropped by more than half but I also lost weight. Hoping the nose is enough that I don't need cpap.

Thanks again for the update, it's encouraging.

They asked the same thing when I went for my nasal surgery. Thinking quickly, I told them a deviated septum correction, tubinates resectioning, and removal and biopsy of a mole on my chest.

Saved me $400 deductible at the dermatologist and the insurance company never new the difference.
