Rib/Lung pain due to cpap?

Post by JanSaysHi » Sat Nov 28, 2009 7:00 pm

I have pains at the sides of my ribs intermittently during the day (pain 1 - 4 minutes, no pain 1 - 30 minutes)
It is slightly more on the right side than on the left.
It seems to be right beneath the breast line and right in between the middle ribs.
This seems to be happening because of CPAP use.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Hi Jan.

Yes, it's been reported frequently with new users. If you go up to the Search function and type in "ribs" you'll see about 13 pages of results.

Jan, I had the same thing at first with a high pressure. I was told by my doc that it was from the high pressure of cpap and that it would go way shortly.

Common early symptom, it takes a lot more effort to exhale against pressure and it's likely you are breathing deeper than you have been which means everything is getting "stretched." Mine lasted if I remember correctly a few weeks. I get it on straight CPAP pressure and do not have it on my autotitrating CPAP (APAP)...not sure why.
